They have been launched to further contribute toward carbon neutrality, we also plan to introduce plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) in the future.

2023 Toyota Vellfire Front Quarter

Toyota launched the Alphard in 2002 during a wave of minivan popularity; positioned as the ultimate Toyota minivan, it was targeted at customers who appreciated luxury. When the second-generation Alphard was released in 2008, the company developed the Vellfire as a new model for customers seeking greater individuality. In 2015, the third-generation Alphard saw the adoption of a new double wishbone rear suspension for exquisite ride comfort, as well as the introduction of a new top-tier Executive Lounge grade. By seeking even greater luxury, Toyota succeeded in transforming the Alphard and Vellfire from minivans into ultra-spacious luxury saloons with greater customer appeal.

When designing the improved fourth-generation models, the development team discussed the value they wished the Alphard and Vellfire to offer. The conclusion it reached was to use these vehicles to create spaces where all passengers could share consideration and appreciation. They named this “the joy of comfortable mobility” and moved forward with development by adding this with the values they had inherited.

2023 Toyota Alphard Front Quarter Action

In pursuit of that “joy of comfortable mobility,” the fourth-generation Alphard and Vellfire have a platform developed anew around the idea of elevating performance to a world standard. As “luxury saloons,” the new Alphard and Vellfire have been improved in terms of basic performance, such as vibration and noise reduction measures, fuel economy, and driving dynamics, while the interior and exterior design, spacious interior and exterior space, and user-friendliness have been enhanced to add value in line with that development concept.

The development team also worked to differentiate more clearly between the Alphard and Vellfire. The Vellfire was assigned an exclusive new Z Premier grade, whose primarily black equipment and aggressive demeanor were imbued with a new sophistication to further underscore its unique exterior. The all-new Vellfire features special tuning to its suspension and an exclusive powertrain unit to enable customers attracted by the uniqueness of the Vellfire to better experience the joy of driving.

Stay tuned for more details about the new Toyota Alphard and Vellfire.

Toyota Vellfire launched in India, priced at INR 79.50 lakh https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-vellfire-launched-india-priced-inr-7950-lakh-p319888 Wed, 26 Feb 2020 08:01:29 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319888 After years of waiting, India has finally received the flagship Toyota MPV - the Toyota Vellfire. Basically a more stylish version of the Toyota Alphard, the Toyota Vellfire has been priced at INR 79.50 lakh (ex-showroom India).

2020 Toyota Vellfire Front Exterior
The Toyota Vellfire is available in India in only the hybrid variant.

The Toyota Vellfire and Toyota Alphard cost the same in Japan, but the reason why TKM went for the former instead of the latter is obvious. The former offers more value for money with its relatively more stylish exterior that also gives it a better road presence. Both are manufactured by Toyota Auto Body at its Inabe plant in Japan.

The Toyota Vellfire is made in standard body and aero body versions, but only the former has been brought to India. A 7-seat seating layout with captain seats in the second row is standard in our market. Internationally, an 8-seat seating layout is also offered. The Japanese minivan measures 4,935 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,950 mm in height. It has a 3,000 mm wheelbase.

While conventional petrol engine options are available internationally, in India, the Toyota Vellfire is a hybrid-only offering. There's a 197 PS parallel hybrid system comprising the 2AR-FXE 2.5-litre petrol engine, the 2JM and 2FM electric motors and a 6.5 Ah Nickel-Metal Hydride battery pack. The rear-mounted 2FM electric motor results in electric four-wheel drive. Toyota calls this setup E-Four. The company claims that E-Four increases total torque to the rear wheels by 30%. This system distributes torque to the rear wheels based on the driving conditions. The fuel economy rating of this people mover is 16.35 km/l.

The Toyota Vellfire is available in India in only the Executive Lounge trim. It features split LED headlamp with cornering function, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED rear combination lamps, oodles of chrome all around on the outside, twin moonroof, power rear and back doors, ventilated and heated front seats with memory function, power reclining and adjustable ottoman second-row seats, individual seat tables and much more as standard.

The former costs INR 68.40 lakh* in the Expression trim and INR 81.90 lakh* in the Exclusive trim, while the latter is sold in the Elite trim for a price of INR 1.10 crore*. Moreover, there’s also the Marco Polo camper variant of the latter, available in Marco Polo Horizon and Marco Polo trims for a price of INR 1.38 crore* and INR 1.46 crore* respectively.

TKM to launch Toyota Vellfire luxury MPV on 26 February https://indianautosblog.com/tkm-launch-toyota-vellfire-luxury-mpv-26-february-p319784 Thu, 13 Feb 2020 07:06:28 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319784 Toyota Kirloskar Motor will launch the highly anticipated Toyota Vellfire on the 26th of this month. The luxury MPV has already reached select showrooms for display and test drive. Some dealers are even unofficially accepting pre-bookings.

Toyota Vellfire

Toyota introduced the current generation Vellfire in January 2015 and gave it a facelift in December 2017. It’s basically a more stylish, edgier version of the Alphard. The company makes in Standard Body and Aero Body (video below) variants, with the latter featuring more bling and even more aggressive styling. Toyota Kirloskar Motor will offer only the Standard Body variant you see in the images here, and that too in only the Executive Lounge grade.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor will offer its first-ever luxury MPV in Black, Graphite ME, White Pearl Crystal Shine and Burning Black exterior colours. Interior colour choices will include Black and Flaxen.

The Toyota Vellfire is available in 7- and 8-seat versions internationally, but only the former is coming to India. Key features will include LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, LED sequential turn indicators, 17-inch alloy wheels, twin moonroof, ventilated and heated front seats with memory function, power rear and back doors, individual seat tables, power reclining and adjustable ottoman seats and 7 airbags. The Indian-spec model will have an aftermarket infotainment system.

The Toyota Vellfire is 4,935 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,950 mm tall. It has a 3,000 mm wheelbase. It will be a hybrid-only model in India. So, it will have the 197 PS full-hybrid system comprising the 2AR-FXE 2.5-litre petrol engine, the 2JM (front) and 2FM (rear) electric motors and a 6.5 Ah Nickel-Metal Hydride battery pack as standard. Expect it to return a fuel economy of around 20 km/l with this setup.

Exclusive: Toyota Vellfire now available for test drive, pre-booking deposit set at INR 10 lakh https://indianautosblog.com/exclusive-toyota-vellfire-test-drive-pre-booking-deposit-amount-inr-10-lakh-deliveries-p319363 Wed, 08 Jan 2020 04:00:25 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319363 The Toyota Vellfire is now available for a test drive in India, dealership sources have told IndianAutosBlog.com. It will be launched next month. Pre-bookings are open for a deposit of INR 10 lakh.

Toyota Vellfire Exterior
The Toyota Vellfire will employ a hybrid powertrain as standard in India.

The waiting period for the Toyota Vellfire is around 4 to 5 months. So customers reserving their Vellfire now will have to wait until April or May for delivery. It is expected to be sold in a single configuration and likely be priced in the range of INR 75-80 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Toyota Vellfire will be brought to India via the CBU route under the government's relaxed import norms. Hence, it will be priced on the higher side. It will be a rival to the likes of Mercedes V-Class and Mercedes V-Class Elite.

While local publications have been reporting that the Toyota Vellfire will be a six-seater in India, we'd like to make it clear that it is made in 7- and 8-seat versions and the former is planned for our market. It's just that the seats of the last row may look good for only two passengers if not seen with the middle headrest.

The Toyota Vellfire will be sold in India in the Executive Lounge grade. Key features will include LED lights all around, sequential turn indicators (front), twin moonroofs, electric sliding doors and tailgate, three-zone automatic climate control, two executive captain seats (second-row) with wing-type headrests, power recline function and an Ottoman that can be electrically extended and retracted 140 mm back and forth, individual trays (second-row) and rear-seat entertainment system with two 10.2-inch HD displays (second-row). A major disappointment will be an aftermarket 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Kid details Indian-spec Toyota Vellfire in a walkaround video https://indianautosblog.com/kid-details-indian-spec-toyota-vellfire-walkaround-video-p319264 Fri, 27 Dec 2019 10:32:45 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319264 The Toyota Vellfire has started reaching dealerships in India and will be launched by February 2020. Here's an interesting walkaround video of the Indian-spec Toyota Vellfire, made by young YouTuber Rishabh Rajesh.

In 2019, the Mercedes V-Class was launched in January, followed by the Mercedes V-Class Elite in November. 2020 will begin with the arrival of a mid-size three-row people mover in January, the Kia Carnival, in January. The Toyota Vellfire full-size model will go on sale soon after.

The Toyota Vellfire has already been spotted in India on several occasions, and these unofficial sightings have given us a fair idea about it. It will be brought in the country as a completely built-up unit (CBU) thanks to the government's relaxed import norms.

The Toyota Vellfire will be available in India in only the Executive Lounge grade. Features like powered tailgate and sliding doors, two sunroofs, three-zone automatic climate control, mood lighting and individual tray tables will be standard on this six-seater. The highlight, of course, will be the two large thrones for the middle row passengers, power-operated ottomans in the middle row, and seats with ventilation and electric-recliner features.

The Toyota Vellfire will be poorly equipped in terms of connectivity features. The biggest letdown of this circa-INR 80 lakh (ex-showroom)-costing MPV will be an aftermarket 7.0-inch infotainment system. Don't expect features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, eSIM, etc. in this one. The middle-row passengers will have two 10.2-inch screens for their entertainment needs.

As for the mechanicals, the Vellfire will employ a 197 PS petrol-electric hybrid powertrain with a 2.5-litre petrol engine which works in conjunction with an electric motor. For the record, it's the full-hybrid system that powers the Lexus NX 300h.

The Toyota Vellfire has already been spotted on several occasions in India. It was first showcased at a private dealers meet and was then again spotted at dealerships later on. It will be launched in India as a completely built-up unit (CBU) under the government's new relaxed homologation rules which permits automakers to import up to 2,500 new vehicles every year without the need to homologate them in the country.

The Indian-spec Toyota Vellfire is going to feature ‘Executive Lounge’ package as standard. This will include powered tailgate and sliding doors, two sunroofs, three-zone automatic climate control, mood lighting and individual tray tables. Also part of this package will be two large thrones for the middle row passengers, power-operated ottomans, and seats featuring ventilation and electric-recliner.

The Indian-spec Vellfire may be launched with an aftermarket 7.0-inch infotainment system. It will also be kitted with two 10.2-inch screens for the rear passengers. For the motive force, it will use a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain which utilises a 2.5-litre petrol engine along with an electric motor. It will deliver 197 PS of combined power output. The Lexus NX300h uses the same powerplant.

Not long after displaying the luxury MPV to dealers and potential customers, it had started dealer dispatch recently. Now, showrooms have started getting first units, as seen in the images below.

Toyota Vellfire Face
Internationally, the Toyota Vellfire is offered in two styles - Standard Body and Aero Body.

The Vellfire is the most luxury-oriented people mover from Toyota and can be seen as an indirect Mercedes V-Class rival. It is the sassier version of the Toyota Alphard and is mainly offered in two body styles - Standard Body and Aero Body. For India, Toyota has planned out the Vellfire with Standard Body. As for the dimensions, it measures 4,935 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,935 mm/1,950 mm in height. Its ground clearance ranges from 160 mm to 170 mm, this depends on the configuration selected.

In terms of mechanicals, the Toyota Vellfire sources its power from the 2AR-FE 2.5-litre petrol engine (182 PS/235 Nm) mated to a CVT or the 2GR-FKS 3.5-litre petrol engine (301 PS/361 Nm) mated to an 8-speed AT. There's also a hybrid powertrain option, with a combination of the 2AR-FXE 2.5-litre petrol engine (152 PS/206 Nm), the 2JM electric motor (143 PS/270 Nm) and the 2FM electric motor (68 PS/139 Nm).

For the interiors, it will employ faux-wood treatment on the dashboard, gear lever, steering wheel and on a few other elements. Strangely, the unit seen here is missing an infotainment system. Maybe there's going be a dealer-level retrofitted unit.

The company's intentions were revealed when it showcased the luxury MPV at a private event previously, and now, it is being displayed to prospective buyers before its launch in October.

Toyota Vellfire Front Quarter
Internationally, the Toyota Vellfire is offered in two styles - Standard Body and Aero Body.

The Toyota Vellfire is the fancier version of the Toyota Alphard which was previously under consideration for the Indian market. It is the most luxurious people mover that is built by Toyota and it competes with the likes of Mercedes V-Class. In the international market, the Toyota Vellfire is offered in two body styles - Standard Body and Aero Body. As the name suggests, the latter is the more aggressively styled version, but India is getting the former apparently.

In terms of dimensions, the Toyota Vellfire measures 4,935 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,935 mm/1,950 mm in height. The ground clearance varies from 160 mm to 170 mm depending on the selected configuration. In terms of mechanicals, there will be no market-specific changes.

Toyota makes the Vellfire with the 2AR-FE 2.5-litre petrol engine (182 PS/235 Nm) mated to a CVT and the 2GR-FKS 3.5-litre petrol engine (301 PS/361 Nm) linked to an 8-speed AT, as well as a hybrid powertrain comprising the 2AR-FXE 2.5-litre petrol engine (152 PS/206 Nm), the 2JM electric motor (143 PS/270 Nm) and the 2FM electric motor (68 PS/139 Nm). In India, the hybrid powertrain will be standard. Depending on the trim, the fuel economy rating (JC08) of the hybrid variant is either 18.4 km/l or 19.4 km/l.

Inside, the Indian-spec Toyota Vellfire features faux-wood treatment on the dashboard, gear lever, steering wheel and other places which ups the luxury quotient of the MPV. Toyota makes the Vellfire in 7- and 8-seat versions and India is apparently getting the comfort-oriented version with captain seats in the middle row.

As per the previous leaked brochure, the Toyota Vellfire in India will be kitted with features such as LED headlights with cornering lamps, sequential turn indicators, power slide & back doors, 7 airbags, powered extendable Ottoman full recline seats, twin moonroof, multi-colour ambient lighting, individual seat tables, seat ventilation, heating and memory functions and Black/Flaxen interior.

Toyota Vellfire: Everything you need to know about it https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-vellfire-everything-you-need-to-know-about-it-p317927 Mon, 22 Jul 2019 05:39:02 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=317927 After evaluating the Toyota Alphard for India for a long time, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has decided to bring in the Toyota Vellfire instead. The company has never showcased this premium minivan in the country or talked about it before. It plans to launch this model in October this year.

Here's everything you need to know about the Toyota Vellfire:-

A decade-old luxury people mover

Following the good amount of success and positive response which the Alphard received internationally, the first-gen Vellfire was launched along with the second-gen Alphard in 2008 as its more stylish cousin. The current, second-gen model was introduced in 2015 and received a facelift in 2017.

Toyota Vellfire Exterior

Costs the same as the Toyota Alphard

In Japan, the Toyota Vellfire and the Toyota Alphard have the same starting price. It's not like just because the former has a better visual appeal it commands a premium. This is probably the only reasonable explanation to why TKM is launching it instead of the Toyota Alphard, which it had showcased at Auto Expo 2018. Perhaps the sharper and more aggressive design will help the company market it better.

On the inside, the Toyota Vellfire comes with the same dashboard and cabin design as well as seating layout as the Alphard. However, the former comes with all-black theme with silver inserts as compared to the dual-tone black and beige theme with faux wood inserts in the Alphard.

Specifications

The Toyota Vellfire is 4,935 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,935 mm/1,950 mm tall. It has a 3,000 mm wheelbase and a 160 mm/165 mm/170 mm ground clearance. Internationally, it is available with the choices of a 2.5-litre petrol engine (182 PS/235 Nm) paired to a CVT, a 3.5-litre petrol engine (301 PS/361 Nm) linked to an 8-speed AT and a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, which consists of a 2.5-litre petrol engine (152 PS/206 Nm), the 2JM electric motor (143 PS/270 Nm) and the 2FM electric motor (68 PS/139 Nm). India will get it with only with the hybrid powertrain. This hybrid powertrain is coupled to a CVT, has four-wheel drive as standard, and promises a fuel economy (JC08) between 18.4-19.4 km/l.

Loaded with features

Given that the Toyota Vellfire is positioned as a premium offering, it is loaded with a lot of bells and whistles. Some of these features that will be offered in India will include LED headlights with cornering lamps, sequential turn indicators, powered extendable Ottoman full recline seats, seat ventilation, heating and memory functions, twin moonroof, power slide & back doors, 7 airbags, multi-colour ambient lighting, individual seat tables and Black/Flaxen interior. Toyota to launch Vellfire luxury MPV in October this year https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-to-launch-vellfire-luxury-mpv-in-october-this-year-p317889 Thu, 18 Jul 2019 06:07:39 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=317889 The Toyota Vellfire will be launched in the country in October this year. The most luxurious Toyota MPV was showcased privately in the country recently.

Toyota Vellfire
The Toyota Vellfire is the company's most luxurious MPV and is offered in 7- and 8-seat versions.

For the uninitiated, the Toyota Vellfire is nothing but a fancier version of the Toyota Alphard which was displayed at Auto Expo 2018 and was earlier said to be India-bound. In Japan, both models have the same starting price. With a sharper and more aggressive design, the Toyota Vellfire is more visually appealing, and that's possibly the reason why Toyota Kirloskar Motor decided on launching it instead of the Toyota Alphard.

The Toyota Vellfire measures 4,935 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,935 mm/1,950 mm in height. The ground clearance, depending on the configuration selected, is either 160 mm or 170 mm. Internationally, it is available in two variants - Standard Body and Aero Body. The former comes with a slightly more sophisticated look and will be the one reaching our shores.

The Toyota Vellfire is available with the 2AR-FE 2.5-litre petrol engine (182 PS/235 Nm) paired with a CVT and the 2GR-FKS 3.5-litre petrol engine delivering (301 PS/361 Nm) linked to an 8-speed AT. There's also a hybrid variant in which there's the 2AR-FXE 2.5-litre petrol engine (152 PS/206 Nm) assisted by the 2JM electric motor (143 PS/270 Nm) and the 2FM electric motor (68 PS/139 Nm). The fuel efficiency rating (JC08) of the hybrid variant depending on the trim is either 18.4 km/l or 19.4 km/l.

As per the details revealed by a leaked brochure, the Toyota Vellfire will be kitted with features like LED headlights with cornering lamps, sequential turn indicators, powered extendable Ottoman full recline seats, seat ventilation, heating and memory functions, twin moonroof, power slide & back doors, 7 airbags, multi-colour ambient lighting, individual seat tables and Black/Flaxen interior.

Toyota Vellfire showcased in India, to be launched very soon https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-vellfire-showcased-in-india-to-be-launched-very-soon-p317881 Wed, 17 Jul 2019 08:45:48 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=317881 Toyota has been considering the Alphard for India for a long time now. In a surprise move, the company has decided to launch its fancier version - the Vellfire, instead. It recently showcased this luxury MPV at what could possibly have been a dealer preview event held prior to market launch.

Toyota makes the Vellfire in 7- and 8-seat versions.

The Toyota Vellfire will be a niche offering in India. It will compete with the Mercedes V-Class. This minivan is the most luxurious and stylish people mover Toyota makes. It is available in two variants: Standard Body and Aero Body. The latter has more aggressive styling, but India will apparently get the former with elegant styling. The minivan measures 4,935 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,935 mm/1,950 mm in height. The ground clearance, depending on the configuration selected, is either 160 mm or 170 mm. Any market-specific changes won't be there, at least not mechanically.

The Toyota Vellfire is available with the 2AR-FE 2.5-litre petrol engine (182 PS/235 Nm) paired with a CVT and also the 2GR-FKS 3.5-litre petrol engine (301 PS/361 Nm) linked to an 8-speed AT. There's even a full-hybrid powertrain option, and that's going to be standard in the Indian-spec Toyota Vellfire. The hybrid powertrain combines the 2AR-FXE 2.5-litre petrol engine (152 PS/206 Nm) with the 2JM electric motor (143 PS/270 Nm) and the 2FM electric motor (68 PS/139 Nm). The fuel economy rating (JC08 test cycle) of the hybrid variant, depending on the trim selected, is either 18.4 km/l or 19.4 km/l.

According to the leaked brochure seen below, the Indian-spec Toyota Vellfire will be equipped with features like LED headlights with cornering lamps, sequential turn indicators, powered extendable Ottoman full recline seats, seat ventilation, heating and memory functions, twin moonroof, power slide & back doors, 7 airbags, multi-colour ambient lighting, individual seat tables and Black/Flaxen interior.

The facelifted Toyota Vellfire features a more angular design at the front.

The Toyota Alphard and Toyota Vellfire duo of luxury minivans entered their third generation in January 2015. Both will receive a facelift for MY2018 soon. At the front, the facelifted Toyota Vellfire features tweaked headlamps, sharper logo, reshaped fog lamp and fog lamp enclosure and restyled bumper. Toyota has toned down the styling of the upper grille, and made elements look more angular than before to retain the bold fascia.

At the rear, the 2018 Toyota Vellfire gets a new, full-width tailgate applique that splits the tail lamps. Like the headlamps, the tail lamps adopt squarish graphics in the new model. Interior changes, assuming there are some, are currently unknown. With the mid-cycle refresh, the Vellfire will gain Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) as standard.

The Toyota Vellfire is available in Japan with the 2AR-FE 2.5-litre and 2GR-FE 3.5-litre petrol engines. The 2.5-litre engine produces 182 PS at 6,000 rpm and 235 Nm of torque at 4,100 rpm. The 3.5-litre engine churns out 280 PS at 6,200 rpm and 344 Nm of torque at 4,700 rpm.

In addition, there is a hybrid variant, which uses the 2AR-FXE 2.5-litre petrol engine along with the 2JM and 2FM electric motors. The petrol engine delivers 152 PS at 5,700 rpm and 206 Nm of torque from 4,400-4,800 rpm. The 2JM electric motor generates 143 PS and 270 Nm of torque. The 2FM electric motor develops 68 PS and 139 Nm of torque.

According to recent Japanese reports, the 280 PS (276.14 hp) 3.5-litre petrol engine will gain direct injection and witness a 20 hp bump up in power. Toyota will replace the 6-speed automatic transmission this engine is currently coupled to with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
