Toyota Camry Split Into Two On Autobahn Shows Danger of Overspeeding https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-camry-high-speed-collision-p323645 Sat, 22 May 2021 11:30:12 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323645 The Toyota Camry has been among the better-known executive sedans on sale in the Indian market. In fact, the Camry has been a huge success in many parts of the world. Apart from its ingenious hybrid technology, the Toyota Camry also boasts 5-star safety rating from ASEAN NCAP. That said, here we have a shocking report of a Toyota Camry that was split in two after a high-speed collision. This accident happened in Saudi Arabia, unfortunately exemplifying the dangers and perils of high speed and rash driving.

As you can see in the video, the car has completely disintegrated after the crash and is even barely recognizable. However, a look at whatever is left suggests that this a 2107 model of the Toyota Camry. Although the exact details of the accident are not known, it must have had a very hard impact on its sides, which has completely split the car in two.

This accident must have been at a really high speed, at which stage NCAP ratings do not hold much relevance. Even Global NCAP conducts its crash tests at speeds of 64kph, replicating average city speed limits. However, with such crashes at much higher speeds, one is really treading into unknown territory. At this point, onboard safety features won't be the most effective in preventing fatalities. This also goes on to stress the need for driving safely and more importantly, driving within speed limits.

Lo and Behold! The Most Extreme Toyota Camry Ever Has Arrived!! https://indianautosblog.com/best-modified-toyota-camry-p323452 Sat, 08 May 2021 05:30:15 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323452 The Toyota Camry has been a big volume seller for the Japanese automaker, especially in the North American market. The Camry provides all the bells and whistles that you can get with the equivalent Mercedes or Audi but is cheaper. Toyota’s sedan over the years isn’t exactly known for its handling capabilities, opting for comfy ride quality instead. However, there is a sportier TRD edition of the Camry though and has proven to be a hit on the sales charts. However, Toyota has just revealed what can be the most extreme Camry ever.

The TRD Camry Next Gen will compete in Nascar's Cup Series from 2022

The automaker along with TRD, its motorsport arm, has unveiled the new TRD Camry Next Gen that will compete from next year in the Nascar Cup Series. Toyota has a well-established presence in Nascar with previous Camrys and racing versions of the Tundra and Supra. The new TRD Camry is based on the new Nascar Next Gen rules which means that it will be a completely new vehicle and will differ from the current Cup Series machines.

There's a raft of safety enhancements in the next-generation Nascar Cup Car

According to Toyota, the TRD Camry Next Gen is designed to resemble its production equivalent closer than before. "There has been a substantial amount of work put into the Toyota TRD Camry Next Gen car by all of our partners, but specifically everyone at TRD and Calty Design," said Paul Doleshal. He is the group manager of motorsports and assets at Toyota Motor North America. "This is our topline, track-inspired performance Camry and it seemed only fitting for it to take its spot on the race track."

The Toyota TRD Camry Next Gen comes with new 18-inch forged aluminium wheels with a centre-locking nut instead of the previous 15-inchers with 5 lug nuts. There are hood vents, a composite body while the underbody is sealed, and revised bumpers. There’s a massive rear diffuser, a first for Nascar and the Camry Next Gen is finished in TRD’s signature black/red/white livery. The new-generation cars also come with a raft of safety enhancements including roll bars and legacy hood flaps. The driver has also been shifted back to sit closer to the car’s centre line.

The next-generation cars will be fitted with a diffuser for the first time

The powertrain is a 5.8-litre V8 that makes 550 or 670 hp depending on the track and is mated to a new 6-speed sequential shift transmission. Camry’s have won 155 Nascar Cup Series races since 2007. The new TRD Camry Next Gen will hope to continue this success rate when it competes at the Daytona International Speedway on February 20, 2022.

Toyota has adopted a unified approach for the eighth generation Toyota Camry's design, which means the global version looks almost the same as the North American model.

The 2018 Toyota Camry looks similar to the North American-spec model. The company has made some changes to the global version, which include the absence of marker lights from the headlamps and inclusion of horizontal fog lamps at the outer ends of the air dam. The company has also showcased a TRD Sportivo version at the ongoing motor show, which should appeal to those looking for more emotion. The interior is near-identical to that of the North American-spec model with the ASEAN spec having a higher usage of wood trim and a different infotainment unit.

1 October, 2018 -

As the eighth generation Toyota Camry’s local testing continues, another batch of spy shots has surfaced online. The new mid-size sedan could go on sale towards the end of the year or early next year.

The all-new Toyota Camry could go on sale in India towards the end of the year or early next year.

The eighth generation Toyota Camry is made in only one version globally, but there are two different stylings with distinctive bumpers and lower grille among other differences. One has a dapper look, while the other has the assertiveness of a sports sedan. India, going by spy shots, will get the version with the poised appearance (images in the second gallery).

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has stopped selling the old Camry petrol in India and offers only the hybrid variant. It may offer the new generation model exclusively in the hybrid variant that delivers an impressive fuel economy of 33.4 km/l (JC 08 test cycle). The eco-friendly variant’s powertrain uses the A25A-FXS 178 PS 2.5-litre petrol engine along with the 3NM 120 PS electric motor to deliver a combined maximum power of 211 PS.

On the outside, the new generation Toyota Camry will likely feature Bi-Beam LED headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lamps and LED tail lamps. Interior highlights may include 8-way power adjustable front seats with power lumbar support for the driver’s seat, dual-zone auto AC with rear seat vents, 7-inch MID, 8-inch central display and Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging.

2019 Toyota Camry spotted again in India https://indianautosblog.com/new-toyota-camry-spotted-again-in-india-p314624 Tue, 25 Sep 2018 11:26:41 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=314624 Spy shots of the eighth-gen Toyota Camry snapped during local testing last week poured cold water on rumours of the car's discontinuation in India. New images shared by Team-BHP forum member GTB/4 reaffirm that the D-segment sedan is getting a full model change.

TKM will likely sell the eighth-gen Camry in only the hybrid flavour.

Unlike its predecessor, the new generation Toyota Camry takes a unified approach, with the same design serving markets across the globe. It looks athletic the way North America wants it yet graceful and upscale as the customers in the East prefer. Key to the striking new look is the TNGA platform underpinning the car that allowed designers to give it a low and wide stance. The fully renewed interior is a fusion of futuristic styling and rich craftsmanship.

As before, the Toyota Camry is a petrol-only offering. For customers seeking a higher level of efficiency, there’s a hybrid variant of the petrol model, but no diesel. In India, TKM may sell only the frugal hybrid variant that delivers a fuel economy of 33.4 km/l (JC 08 test cycle). In that case, under the curvaceous 1.6-inch-lower aluminium hood, will rest the A25A-FXS 2.5-litre Dynamic Force Engine (178 PS/221 Nm) assisted by the 3NM electric motor (120 PS/202 Nm).

LED headlamps, fog lamps and tail lamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, subtle rear spoiler lip, chrome exhaust finisher and the brand emblems tinged in a blue hue will likely form the exterior highlights of the Indian-spec version.

Inside, expect the VW Passat & Skoda Superb rival to feature 8-inch central display, 7-inch multi-information display, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support, 8-way power adjustable front seat, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear seat vents and Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging.

Eighth-gen Toyota Camry spied in India for the first time, to go on sale in 2019 https://indianautosblog.com/eighth-gen-toyota-camry-spied-in-india-p314581 Sat, 22 Sep 2018 07:03:47 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=314581 Testing of the eighth-gen Toyota Camry that had its world debut in January 2017 has commenced in India, spy shots posted by RushLane reader Kunal Mittal have revealed.

TKM may launch the eighth generation Camry exclusively in a hybrid variant.

The latest Toyota Camry features a bolder design that is new bumper to bumper. It is lower and wider than its predecessor, and it strikes a balance between refinement and a sensual athletic image. Underpinning the car is the GA-K version of the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform.

On the outside, the 2019 Toyota Camry features a two-piece grille composed of flowing thin and thick treatments - key elements of the car’s “Keen Look” design philosophy - flanked by bi-beam LED headlamps with multi-level stacked LED clearance lamps, 19-inch alloy wheels, slim LED rear combination lamps and dual exhaust with quad chrome tips. Some of the features are unlikely for the Indian-spec version such as the 19-inch wheels and the dual exhaust.

The increased sense of sportiness is reflected in the cockpit design with the gauges angled towards the driver and a sweeping (yet elegant) new character line that bisects the centre console waterfall. The 8-inch central display, 10-inch (colour) head-up display and 7-inch multi-information display are integrated in a way that barely requires the driver to take the eyes off the road. The driver’s seat has 8-way power adjustment with power lumbar support.

Other interior highlights include dual-zone automatic climate control with rear-seat vents, Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging, three USB ports, 8-way power adjustable front passenger seat and Tiger Eye wood trim.

Getting to the mechanicals, the Camry falls in a segment in which most customers in India would prefer a diesel engine. As there’s no diesel engine option, and big volumes are unlikely from this model, Toyota may go hybrid-only with the new model. In that case, one can expect the 178 PS A25A-FXS 2.5-litre Dynamic Force petrol engine combined with the 120 PS electric motor delivering a system output of 211 PS.

The eighth generation Toyota Camry is made globally in one version, featuring largely the same design.

For the eighth generation Toyota Camry’s design, Toyota has taken a more unified approach. There’s largely the same design serving all markets. The redesigned D-segment sedan measures 4,885 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width and 1,455 mm in height. It has a 2,825 mm wheelbase. It rides on the GA-K version of the TNGA platform.

The latest Toyota Camry is available with 2.0-, 2.5- and 3.5-litre petrol engines globally. Thirdly there is the Hybrid variant which uses a combination of a 2.5-litre petrol engine and an electric motor.

The latest Toyota Camry Hybrid uses the all-new TNGA-based A25A-FX 2.5-litre Dynamic Force engine that produces 178 PS and 221 Nm of torque with the 3NM electric motor that generates 120 PS and 202 Nm of torque. It has an impressive fuel economy rating (JC08 mode) of 33.4 km/l.

On the outside, the sedan features LED headlamps with AHB function, LED fog lamps, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED rear combination lamps, shark-fin antenna and panoramic glass roof. Dual-zone automatic climate control, 7-inch MID, 10-inch colour head-up display, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel are among the interior highlights.

The 2019 Camry now rides on the TNGA GA-K platform and features a 50 mm wheelbase extension

The eighth-generation of the popular sedan has already hit its main markets - North America, Japan and Australia - with its 'Keen Look', and what is perceived as a more aggressive design, but most importantly, Toyota has finally upgraded the popular Camry to the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) 'GA-K' platform. The same platform underpins the more expensive 2018 Lexus ES 300h (which went on sale in India last month), the new Avalon and RAV4 models.

With a wheelbase increment of 50 mm, the 2019 Camry is expected to up its comfort quotient, though weight has not increased. Inside, the dashboard sports a more appealing and luxurious design, and is sure to be equipped with soft-touch materials, a touchscreen entertainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-speaker surround sound system and electrically adjustable rear seats.

The 2019 Camry is expected to launch in India in mid-2019 offering a conventional gasoline and hybrid variant. Both will be assembled at Toyota's Bidadi facility, though the latter is expected to command a price of INR 38 lakhs owing to the government's 43 percent GST on hybrid vehicles.

The engine is the 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol unit making 176 hp and 221 Nm of torque paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The hybrid will combine this engine with an 118 hp electric motor to produce a combined output of 208 hp, and will come with a 6-step CVT and Toyota's Hybrid System II power management.

Toyota Camry Hybrid to be discontinued in India - Report https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-may-discontinue-toyota-camry-hybrid-india-p302302 Tue, 03 Apr 2018 04:56:46 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=302302 In another instance of an automaker negatively affected by India’s inconsistent taxation policies, Toyota Kirloskar Motor is having second thoughts about continuing the Toyota Camry Hybrid in the market. The company will have to pull the plug off the hybrid sedan if the government continues levying hefty taxes on HEVs.

Toyota Camry Hybrid front three quarters right side
The Toyota Camry Hybrid's sales dropped to double-digit figures because of the price hike brought by the GST rollout.

Speaking to The Telegraph recently, Akito Tachibana, MD, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said: “If the government does not rethink on the taxation of hybrid cars, we will have to pull out our hybrid offering in Camry and go back to pure internal combustion engines.” While the government abruptly plans to shift the demand from conventional petrol/diesel cars to directly EVs, Toyota, like most automakers, sees hybrid cars quintessential to the transition.

The Toyota Camry Hybrid was one of the best-selling HEVs in India once. With the GST implementation last year, however, its sales plummeted from about 100 cars a month to about 35 units a month. This was because the car’s price went straight up from INR 31.98 lakh* to INR 37.22 lakh*. The local taxes levied on PVs are also very high, and this meant the on-road price increasing to about INR 42 lakh. Due to the adverse impact on sales, TKM had to stop assembling the car for four months.
