In stock state, this 1.6L turbocharged hatchback makes 268 HP.

Powertune Australia, a tuning company based in New South Wales, has managed to achieve this feat. The official dyno-tested figure is 740.9 HP. And to reach there, the Toyota Yaris GR has been fitted with multiple aftermarket parts.

For example, the hatchback uses an upgraded head gasket, uprated head studs, and a turbo exhaust manifold. The tuners also fitted an upgraded intercooler with the necessary piping. The car runs on a MoTec plugin ECU.

To handle the incredible output, the Yaris GT is using a six-speed sequential transmission from X-Shift and is mated to an ATS Triple Carbon clutch. Other tweaks include new injectors, fuel pump and a cat-back exhaust steup. The rods, crank, and pistons have been kept stock.

Toyota Yaris Discontinued, Rebadged Maruti Ciaz to Come as Replacement? https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-yaris-discontinued-rebadged-maruti-ciaz-repacement-p324410 Mon, 27 Sep 2021 08:34:52 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=324410 The Toyota Yaris has been taken off the shelves from the Indian market. Its production has been stopped from today, 27 Sept 2021. Toyota Kirloskar Motors has said that it has taken this decision under its new product strategy. Now, it is being speculated that the rebadged version of the Maruti Ciaz will the vacancy created.

With the discontinuation of the Yaris, Toyota Kirloskar Motors has announced that it will continue to provide aftersales support to the owners of the sedan. The company will also provide spares at least for the next 10 years. The brand will also introduce new models in 2022 under its new product strategy.

Here’s the official statement.

"This move is a part of Toyota's product strategy to continue to cater to the ever-evolving needs of the customer through enhanced technologies and product offerings. In every sense, the Yaris is truly a top-class, versatile sedan. Ever since its India debut, the Yaris built on Toyota's QDR philosophy, won the hearts of the customers with its stunning style & design, leading features, low maintenance cost and unmatchable drivability, thus creating a unique ownership experience. We thank all our customers for their support and flacing their trust in the brand. We would like to continue to serve such customers with other current offerings and preparations are underway to launch new Toyota models in the coming new year 2022."

2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Spec Comparo 13

It is being said that the rebadged Maruti Ciaz is likely to come as the Toyota Yaris replacement. This wouldn’t be a surprise because we already have the Toyota Urban Cruiser and Toyota Glanza that are rebadged versions of the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Maruti Baleno respectively. Also, earlier this year, Toyota had trademarked the moniker “Toyota Belta” in India which is expected to be the name of the rebadged Ciaz. While anything official regarding this is yet to be announced, we are expecting this sedan to launch in 2022.

Toyota Belta is the New Honda City Rival, Based on Maruti Ciaz https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-belta-new-honda-city-rival-based-on-maruti-ciaz-p323239 Wed, 21 Apr 2021 04:00:20 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323239 Lately, Toyota has been rebadging Maruti products and selling them in the Indian market. The Toyota Glanza and the Urban Cruiser are the outcomes of this process. Now, Toyota is planning to introduce a repurposed version of the Maruti Ciaz to replace the Yaris. Further confirming this news are spy pictures of the Ciaz’s radiator grille with a Toyota logo. Moreover, Toyota has recently filed a trademark registration for the ‘Belta’ name, which is expected to be the name that Toyota-badged Maruti Ciaz will be known as.

Toyota Belta Yaris Replacement

Since Toyota hasn’t tasted success in the Indian market yet, in terms of small cars sales, rebadging the highest-selling Maruti products comes up as a great rescue. Once launched, the Toyota Belta will challenge the likes of Honda City and the Maruti Ciaz itself. In terms of design, the Toyota-badged Maruti Ciaz is expected to retain its design, with the new badge being the only difference. The new badge will be seen on the radiator grille, boot lid, wheel hubs, steering wheel, key fob and more.

Talking of the features, the Toyota Belta will get a similar equipment list as the Maruti Ciaz. The list includes LED headlamps with DRLs, touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, multi-function steering wheel, keyless entry & go, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, front centre armrest, rear-seat armrest and more. Additionally, Toyota’s iteration of the Ciaz might get a lot of these features as standard across the range.

For the safety of the occupants, the Ciaz comes standard with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, high-speed alerts, seat belt alarm, and load limiters & pre-tensioners for seat belts. Similarly, the Belta will also get these features as standard fitment across the range.

Powering the Toyota Belta will be the 1.5L K-Series petrol motor that does duties on the Urban Cruiser (rebadged Maruti Vitara Brezza) and Maruti Ciaz. It is capable of dishing out a peak power output of 105 PS and max torque of 138 Nm and can be had mated to either a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT. While the prices of Maruti Ciaz start at INR 8.42 lakh, expect the Toyota-badged iteration to go on sale with a price premium.

Maruti Ciaz to Replace Toyota Yaris in TKM’s Catalogue https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-yaris-to-be-replaced-by-rebadged-ciaz-p323221 Mon, 19 Apr 2021 08:30:47 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323221 The global partnership between Toyota and Suzuki has already reaped several rebadged models from the two Japanese carmakers. In India, it has given birth to the likes of the Toyota Urban Cruiser and the Toyota Glanza, which are essentially rebadged version of the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Maruti Baleno respectively. The next model to come out of this partnership in India will be a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. However, that is likely to put the future of the Toyota Yaris in jeopardy.

Maruti Ciaz Toyota Yaris Replacement
The Toyota Yaris will soon be replaced by a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in India (image used for representation purpose only).

Much like we have seen with the Baleno/Glanza and Vitara Brezza/Urban Cruiser rebadging, the Toyota-badged Ciaz will simply be a minor design revision over it's donor car. It will be absolutely identical to the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz under its skin and even in terms of the features and equipment that would be on offer. A new spy image of a Maruti Ciaz grille with a Toyota badge suggests at an imminent launch in the coming months. It remains to be seen to what extent Toyota differentiates their upcoming sedan from the Ciaz in terms of styling.

A new spy image of a Maruti Ciaz grille with a Toyota badge hints at an imminent launch of the upcoming sedan in the coming months.

Also Read : Maruti Vitara Brezza Sells More Than Three Times The Toyota Urban Cruiser

Going by this spy image, the grille looks almost identical to that of the Ciaz, except for the Toyota badge. Now this does raise the question if the Toyota sedan will have it's own unique styling to differentiate it from the Ciaz, like the Urban Cruiser does from the Brezza. We have previously seen Toyota being unimaginative with the rebadged Glanza and a repetition of this exercise will be quite disappointing. Even a redesigned bumper at either end and new alloy wheels should largely help the case of the Toyota sedan.

Incidentally, Toyota already has the Yaris competing in the same compact-sedan segment as Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. It is highly unlikely that Toyota will have two sedans in the same space, which inevitably hints at the Yaris being pulled off the shelves. The Yaris anyway has been the least selling model in its segment and feels lackluster and dated when compared to some newer offerings in the segment. With the discontinuation of the Yaris, Toyota will even save on the manufacturing costs of the sedan. Meanwhile, the rebadged-Ciaz will be manufactured by Maruti Suzuki at their own plant.

Following this, Toyota also has a rebadged version of the Ertiga MPV in the pipeline for a launch sometime in 2022. Apart from rebadged models, the Japanese duo also have plans to develop an all-new compact SUV to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. This will be the first instance of a completely new product being born out of the partnership. Currently, neither carmakers have an offering in the compact SUV segment. Given how rapidly this segment is growing, it would be interesting to see how this space develops with new offerings from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota.

The Toyota Yaris GR-S Is A Souped Up Yaris Sedan For Malaysia https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-yaris-gr-s-launched-in-malaysia-p322120 Tue, 22 Dec 2020 11:30:28 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322120 The Toyota Yaris is a humble, easy-to-live with sedan in the Indian market but it is not quite so ordinary in some other markets abroad. Earlier this year, Toyota debuted the hot-hatch version of the Yaris hatchback and now, the folks at Toyota's racing division - Gazoo Racing - have worked their magic on the Yaris sedan as well. Toyota has unveiled the new Yaris GR-S for the Malaysian market. The Yaris is also known as the Vios in the Malaysian market.

Toyota Yaris GR-S
Toyota has unveiled the new Yaris GR-S for the Malaysian market which is a sportier version of the India-spec Yaris

It must however be noted that this Toyota Yaris GR-S must not be confused with the new Yaris GRMN hot-hatch. The latter is based on Toyota’s new TNGA platform while the Yaris GR-S is based on the same platform that underpins the India-spec Yaris. In fact, its a sportier variant of the Yaris we have here in India. It would however be unfair to call it just another variant of the Yaris as there have been a host of updates under the skin to make a driver-focused car.

Also Read : Toyota Fortuner Legender Is Indeed Coming To India By Early-2021

The Toyota Yaris GR-S gets a sports tuned suspension which makes the car sit substantially lower than the standard car. It rides on larger 17-inch wheels shod with wider 205/45 section tyres. The Yaris GR-S also features a host of cosmetic updates, the most obvious of which is the aggressive front bumper with rather big air intakes. The rear bumper even features a mild diffuser. There are also side skirts and a rear spoiler which further add to the sporty appeal of the car. On the inside, the Yaris GR-S gets an all-black theme with red stitching and inserts and GR badges on the seats. Even the needles in the instrument console come finished in red.

Toyota Yaris Gr S 3
The Toyota Yaris GR-S gets a sports tuned suspension which makes the car sit substantially lower than the standard car.

Toyota has however not tweaked the engine at all and that might be disappointing for some. It thus continues to be powered by a 1.5L, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 107hp and 140Nm of torque. The numbers certainly aren't overwhelming for what's deemed to be a sporty car. Toyota has however thrown in a new 10-step CVT gearbox instead of the 7-step CVT that you get with the standard car. That should help keep the engine on the boil and squeeze out some performance from it.

There's also a new Sport mode which sharpens the throttle and gearbox responses by some bit. The Toyota Yaris GR-S has been launched in Malaysia with prices starting from RM 95284, which translates to about INR 17.34 lakh in Indian money. This however will not make it to the Indian market and the Yaris will continue to be an ordinary sedan here in India.

Toyota Yaris Black Edition Teased, Looks Sportier Than Standard Model https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-yaris-black-edition-teaser-p321515 Fri, 04 Sep 2020 08:30:40 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321515 Toyota India took to its social media channels to tease the new Yaris Black Edition. The company has also displayed the upcoming car on its official website. The Toyota Yaris Black Edition looks sportier than the sedan’s standard model thanks to the all-black theme.

Toyota Yaris Black Edition Front Lt
The Toyota Yaris Black Edition should purely be a cosmetic update over the standard model.

What’s new?

The Toyota Yaris Black Edition is identical to the standard Yaris when it comes to the list of features. However, to make the car more visually appealing, especially to the youngsters, Toyota has used black paint scheme. Apart from that, there are some chrome garnishing on the headlights and taillights of the car. On the inside, there are door edge lighting, perhaps, only in the front doors, for a premium feel. No further changes have been implemented.

Availability

Toyota has not announced the launch date of the new Yaris Black Edition. However, we are expecting the company to do so very soon. Also, it is being speculated that this model will be available only in limited numbers. So if you have been planning to buy a Yaris, perhaps, this would be a good opportunity.

Price

Toyota is yet to reveal the pricing of the Yaris Black Edition. However, it is quite likely that the company would not charge anything extra for this limited model.

Key Features

The list of features of the new Toyota Yaris Black Edition will probably be unchanged. So elements like 7 airbags, TPMS, vehicle stability control, reverse camera, auto headlamps, roof-mounted air vents with ambient illumination, steering mounted controls, infotainment system with gesture control and navigation would be present.

Powering the forthcoming Toyota Yaris Black Edition would be the same 1.5-litre petrol engine that we have seen in the other variants. This motor is capable of producing 107 PS of maximum power at 6000 rpm and 140 Nm of peak torque at 4200 rpm. For the transmission, there is either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed CVT.

2021 Toyota Yaris Facelift Scheduled For Philippine Debut on July 25 https://indianautosblog.com/2021-toyota-yaris-facelift-scheduled-for-philippine-debut-on-july-25-p321229 Fri, 24 Jul 2020 10:15:20 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321229 The Toyota Yaris was launched in India, as an upgrade for customers to shift up from the Toyota Etios, while also maintaining a level of affordability over the Toyota Corolla Altis. Built to compete with the likes of the MAruti Ciaz, Honda City and Skoda Rapid, the Toyota Yaris wasn’t as successful as the company would have hoped.  However, that may all change as Toyota will be launching the new Toyota Yaris facelift in the Philippines with a host of upgrades to styling and features. It should be known that the car which is sold as the Toyota Yaris in our market, is known as the ‘Vios’ in some other parts of SouthEast Asia, including Philippines.

Toyota Vios Phillipines Launch 25 July

In terms of exterior styling, the 2021 Toyota Vios gets an updated grille which now gets a one-slat design with an elongated middle section housing the Toyota emblem. The grille is flanked by a pair of sleeker headlamps which feature projector lamps and wrap-around style elongated till the fender. Below this, you’ll also find an updated bumper design, which gets a lot of styling elements. The top half feature two LED strips on either side, which sit above a blacked-out lower portion housing the air dam. On either side you’ll find a blacked-out panel which accommodates the fog lamp housings, which happen to be upgraded LED units. On the side, the styling remains largely familiar, retaining the 16-inch split-style LED design and blacked-out ORVMs in sportier variants. The rear profile retains the same design as well. While the final features list is yet to be confirmed, the interior will feature minimal changes. Apart from a likely change in design, features like a touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry-and-go, Sport/Eco drive modes and leather-wrapped steering wheel, all remain similar to the outgoing version.

Toyota Vios Phillipines Launch 25 July Rear Profil

The India-spec Toyota Yaris comes with just one petrol engine option. It is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated unit which is capable of developing 106bhp and 140Nm of torque. The Philippine-spec Toyota Vios gets the similar 1.5-litre petrol unit, along with a more affordable 1.3-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine option which develops 97bhp and 127Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed MT and CVT. In the Philippines, prices of the Toyota Yaris start at INR 10 lakh and go up to INR 16.65 lakh.

2021 Toyota Yaris sedan imagined - IAB Rendering https://indianautosblog.com/2021-toyota-yaris-sedan-imagined-iab-rendering-p320796 Sat, 30 May 2020 05:42:15 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320796 Introduced in August 2017, the new global Toyota Yaris sedan (Toyota Yaris Ativ/Toyota Vios) will likely receive a facelift in the second half of the year. IndianAutosBlog.com's digital illustrator has created a rendering to show how the 2021 Toyota Yaris will likely look like.

2021 Toyota Yaris Sedan Facelift Rendering
The 2021 Toyota Yaris sedan in the rendering indeed looks much dapper than the model currently on sale.

The 2021 Toyota Yaris sedan in the rendering has the same front end design as the 2021 Toyota Yaris hatchback (for emerging markets) that was leaked via patent images recently. The new front bumper is similar to that of the Mk12 Toyota Corolla (Prestige version) and has more defined, muscular outer ends that are even more pronounced than in the global compact sedan.

The inverted lower grille of the Toyota Yaris sedan facelift has honeycomb-pattern openings. The new headlamps are sharper and inline LED units. All in all, the face of the updated sedan looks way more aggressive, bolder and plusher. On the sides, there are bigger, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. No significant changes are expected at the rear. Maybe there will be revised tail lamps and a restyled bumper, but nothing else should be new.

The interior changes for the Toyota Yaris sedan may include new seat covers, updated instrument cluster, enhanced infotainment system, auto-dimming rearview mirror and telescopic steering.

2018 Toyota Vios (Toyota Yaris sedan) interior
The interior of the Toyota Yaris sedan may not receive any significant visual changes.

Under the hood, the 2NR-FE 1.5-litre petrol engine will likely continue being on duty in the Toyota Yaris sedan in India. This BS6 naturally aspirated four-cylinder mill produces 107 PS of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of maximum torque at 4,200 rpm. It returns a fuel economy of 17.1 km/l (with 6-speed MT)/17.8 km/l (with CVT).

The prices of the old Toyota Yaris sedan start at INR 9.46 lakh*. The new model may also have a starting price of around INR 9,50 lakh*.

2021 Toyota Yaris facelift leaked via patent images https://indianautosblog.com/2021-toyota-yaris-facelift-leaked-via-patent-images-p320713 Wed, 20 May 2020 10:46:54 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320713 The 2021 Toyota Yaris facelift has leaked via patent images. The leaked upcoming hatchback is directly related to the Toyota Yaris sold in India.

2021 Toyota Yaris Facelift Front Quarters
The 2021 Toyota Yaris sedan facelift will likely feature the same new front end as the 2021 Toyota Yaris facelift seen here.

The Toyota Yaris seen is the Toyota XP150 (internal name) that was unveiled in April 2013. This patent images reveal how the Toyota Yaris hatchback for emerging markets will look after its second facelift. The Toyota Yaris Ativ, which is sold in India as the Toyota Yaris and elsewhere even as the Toyota Vios, will likely get the same new front end design as this hatchback after its first facelift.

The 2021 Toyota Yaris facelift features more technical-looking, LED headlamps (with LED signature DRL) that are reminiscent of the Mk4 Toyota Yaris sold in the developed markets. The visual changes at the front also include a newly designed front bumper inspired by the Mk12 Toyota Corolla (elegant version) and newly designed grilles. The sides and the rear end are no different from those of the old model.

2021 Toyota Yaris Facelift Rear Quarters
The Toyota Yaris will get no changes at the rear with the next mid-life update.

The Toyota Yaris sedan sold in India was unveiled internationally in August 2017. In September 2017, the Toyota Yaris hatchback for emerging markets borrowed the sedan's front end design with its first facelift. Now, it looks like the sedan will borrow the new front end design for its first facelift from the hatchback.

In India, the Toyota Yaris sedan facelift could be launched sometime in 2021, the year when the original sedan will turn three years old. Prior to that, the latter is said to receive a CNG variant and also a taxi variant.

5 best sedan cars in India under INR 10 lakh - IAB Picks https://indianautosblog.com/best-sedan-under-10-lakhs-india-p320644 Wed, 13 May 2020 13:40:03 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320644 SUVs are gaining popularity over sedans across segments, but there is still a significant demand for them in segments under INR 10 lakh*. In this post, we have picked out the best sedan under 10 lakhs and listed down five of them based on the most sought-after aspects like comfort, fuel economy (mileage) and in-cabin technologies, etc.

Space and comfort – Maruti Ciaz

If there is one sedan which has redefined the term ‘value for money’ among sedans in India, it has to be the Maruti Ciaz. The Maruti Ciaz is undoubtedly the longest car under the INR 10 lakh mark. It not only gives the feeling of owning a much bigger, upper-class sedan, but also a long wheelbase that translates to a much more spacious cabin compared to what rivals offer.

Best Sedan Under 10 Lakhs: Maruti Suzuki Ciaz
The Maruti Ciaz offers the most spacious cabin in its class, thanks to its longest wheelbase.

With the segment-best legroom and knee room, and with an adequate amount of shoulder room and headroom on offer, the Maruti Ciaz is clearly the most spacious car in its category. So, if you have a tight budget, and are mostly being chauffeured, the Maruti Ciaz is the best sedan under 10 lakhs which you can opt for.

Maruti Suzuki has recently updated the Ciaz with a BS-VI compliant 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which is available with a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearboxes, and delivers a maximum power output of 105 PS and a peak torque output of 138 Nm. The automatic configurations cost over INR 10 lakh*.

Fuel efficiency and reliability – Maruti Dzire

Maruti Suzuki definitely knows how to make cars which don't burn a hole in the pocket, and what better example can be there than the Maruti Dzire, India's best-selling sedan. Since its inception almost 13 years ago, the Maruti Dzire has been the topmost preferred choice regarding the best sedan under 10 lakhs for those who prioritize money-saving methods like maximum fuel efficiency and least maintenance costs.

Best Sedan Under 10 Lakhs: 2020 Maruti Dzire Facelift
The 1.2-litre K12N petrol engine makes the Maruti Dzire the most fuel-efficient petrol sedan in the country.

The Maruti Dzire was recently given a makeover, which apart from receiving a fresh new face, also got a new heart in the form of a new 1.2-litre four cylinder petrol engine. The new engine has made the Maruti DZire the most efficient petrol sedan in the country. It has a fuel economy rating of 23.26 km/l with the 5-speed manual transmission and 24.12 km/l with the 5-speed automated manual transmission. The new engine produces 90 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque output.

Technology and features – Hyundai Aura 1.0 Turbo GDI petrol

Turbocharging is the call of the hour, and while all the manufacturers are gradually coming up with one or two new products with turbocharged petrol engines, Hyundai has set up the pace by introducing a range of cars with a turbocharged petrol engine like the Venue, Creta, Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and Verna.

Best Sedan Under 10 Lakhs: Hyundai Aura Turbo
The Hyundai Aura 1.0 Turbo GDI is the best sedan under 10 lakhs to offer a turbocharged petrol engine.

The Hyundai Aura is the only sedan under the INR 10 lakh mark to be available with a turbocharged petrol engine. Priced at INR 8.55 lakh*, the sub-4 metre sedan has a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 100 PS of maximum power and 172 Nm of peak torque output. The engine is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.

Moreover, it’s not only the turbocharged petrol engine which gives the Hyundai Aura the title of the best sedan under 10 lakhs but also the longest list of comfort and convenience features on offer, which make it the most feature-rich sedan in its category. In the sole SX+ trim in which it is available, the Hyundai Aura 1.0 Turbo GDI is equipped with the largest-in-segment 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with iBlue audio remote application, reverse camera, Apple Carplay, and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charger, cooled glove box, push-button start with keyless entry, projector headlamps and daytime running LEDs and machined alloy wheels.

Performance  and driving dynamics – Ford Aspire 1.5 TDCI diesel

The Ford Aspire does not get standout sporty design elements like the Hyundai Aura turbo-petrol, but it surely manages to shoot down the latter as well as all the other sedans in its space when it comes to outright performance and driving manners. The Ford Aspire is available with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. It is the latter which can bring a big smile to your face if you are behind the steering wheel of the Aspire.

Best Sedan Under 10 Lakhs: 2018 Ford Aspire Facelift
The 1.5-litre diesel engine of the Ford Aspire offers the most amount of torque in its segment.

Coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, the 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine makes 100 PS of maximum power and 215 Nm of peak torque. It is the torquiest engine in the segment. Also, the traditional virtues of all the Ford products of having nicely weighted steering and finely tuned suspension have been bestowed on the Ford Aspire diesel as well, making it the most fun-to-drive sedan in its category.

Ford Aspire diesel prices*

  • Trend - INR 7,49,000
  • Titanium - INR 7,99,00
  • Titanium+ - INR 8,34,000

Safety – Toyota Yaris

The next best sedan under 10 lakhs is the Toyota Yaris, one of the most underrated cars in the Indian automobile market. The vehicle hasn’t clicked much with the Indian audience, and that might be due to steep pricing by Toyota at the time of its launch. However, the high price was justified by the fact that it was equipped with a total of seven airbags as standard. Now, cheaper configurations with three airbags are available. Just to give you a testimony of the Toyota Yaris' prowess in safety, it has secured a 4-star rating at Latin NCAP and a 5-star rating at ASEAN NCAP.

Best Sedan Under 10 Lakhs: Toyota Yaris Ativ front three quarters at 2017 Thai Motor Expo
The base variant of the Toyota Yaris comes with three airbags.

The Toyota Yaris is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which churns out 107 PS of maximum power and 140 Nm of peak torque output. All the variants of the Toyota Yaris, including the base J variant, are offered with both 5-speed manual and CVT gearboxes.

Compared to the Toyota C-HR, it is smaller and has a more conventional design.

White Toyota Yaris Cross
The Toyota Yaris Cross is roughly the size of the European VW T-Cross. It is 4,180 mm long, 1,765 mm wide and 1,560 mm tall.

The Toyota Yaris Cross is 4,180 mm long, 1,765 mm wide and 1,560 mm tall. So, it’s roughly the size of the European VW T-Cross, which measures 4,108 mm in length, 1,799 mm in width and 1,584 mm in height. While the German SUV has a 2,551 mm wheelbase, the Japanese SUV has a tad longer, 2,560 mm wheelbase.

The Toyota Yaris Cross sits on the GA-B version of the TNGA platform. For those wondering if it's related to the Toyota Yaris sedan sold in India, the fact is that it has no connection at all. It actually belongs to the Mk4 Toyota Yaris family, which was brought to life with a hatchback in October last year.

White Toyota Yaris Cross Interior Dashboard
The interior of the Toyota Yaris Cross, while decent enough, isn't nearly as appealing as its exterior.

Toyota will offer the Yaris Cross in petrol and hybrid variants. The petrol variant employs the M15A-FKS 1.5-litre direct-injection three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 120 PS and 145 Nm of torque. The hybrid variant uses the M15A-FXE 1.5-litre direct-injection three-cylinder petrol engine along with the 1NM electric motor and (in only the AWD configuration) the 1MM electric motor. Detailed specifications have been included towards the end of the story.

LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, 10-inch colour head-up display, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and sat-nav and 40:20:40 split rear seats are some of the key features of the Toyota Yaris Cross.

White Toyota Yaris Cross Rear
Toyota will offer the Yaris Cross in petrol and hybrid variants.

The Toyota Yaris Cross looks like a model that would be an instant hit in India if launched with an attractive price, but that's the problem. It has been developed keeping European countries, Japan and such other markets for whom cost is not a concern. Toyota Kirloskar Motor doesn’t plan to launch any originally Toyota product in the A and B segments for the foreseeable.

Best automatic cars in India under 10 lakh 2020 - IAB Picks https://indianautosblog.com/best-automatic-cars-in-india-under-10-lakh-p320401 Fri, 24 Apr 2020 15:01:46 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320401 It was the year 2014 when Maruti launched Celerio as India’s first car with automated manual transmission (AMT), which did revolutionize the era of automatic cars in the Indian market, with many other cars from other manufacturers too following the suite.

While the AMT gearbox offered affordable and economic automatic driving experience on the table, it still falls short of driving pleasure, with shift shocks being the most noteworthy let-down. There are some budget cars which continue to rely on CVTs and torque converters, for a smoother and more relaxed drive.

Following is a list of the five best automatic cars under 10 lakh in India, which feel much more refined to drive than the AMT-equipped cars out there:

1. Honda Amaze CVT

The Mk2 Honda Amaze has garnered tremendous response as compared to the model it replaced for a number of reasons, one of which is the availability of a CVT option in even the diesel engine variant. Currently, it is the most affordable sedan in the country to be available with a CVT. It is also among the best automatic cars under 10 lakh in India.

The Honda Amaze is the only car in India which offers a CVT option in even the diesel engine variant.

The 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol motor of the Honda Amaze CVT makes 90 PS of maximum power output and 110 Nm of peak torque output. The fuel efficiency of the Honda Amaze CVT with the petrol engine is rated at 18.3 km/l. The 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine of the automatic sedan produces 80 PS and 160 Nm of torque. The fuel economy rating of the diesel engine variant is 21.0 km/l.

  • V diesel - INR 9.84 lakh
  • VX diesel/Exclusive Edition Diesel - INR 9.99 lakh

2. Maruti Baleno CVT

While every other hatchback from Maruti Suzuki except for the Alto 800 offers the convenience of a 5-speed AMT optionally, the Maruti Baleno is available with a CVT option. That's understandable, given the fact that the Baleno caters to a more premium section of buyers.

The Maruti Baleno is currently available with two 1.2-litre petrol engines, one with mild hybrid technology and the other without it. The CVT gearbox is mated to the 1.2-litre petrol engine sans the mild-hybrid technology, which produces 83 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque output. With Maruti Baleno CVT returns a fuel economy of 19.56 km/l.

  • Delta - INR 7,76,612
  • Zeta - INR 8,33,112
  • Alpha - INR 8,96,112

3. Toyota Glanza CVT

The exact replica of Maruti Baleno from Toyota’s stable, the Glanza, now replaces the Etios Liva as the company's most affordable car. It is the only hatchback from Toyota in India. Like the original model, the rebadged model is available with a CVT option.

The Toyota Glanza CVT has the same 1.2-litre petrol engine as the Maruti Baleno CVT, the one with 83 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of maximum torque. So, the fuel efficiency is also the same - 19.56 km/l.

4. Toyota Yaris CVT

The Toyota Yaris might not have struck the chord of Indians on a large scale as Toyota India expected at the time of its launch. However, what actually commanded a lot of respect for Toyota India is the fact that the Yaris was offered with seven airbags and optional CVT gearbox right from the most basic variant.

The Toyota Yaris is equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which can be had with a CVT across the range. The petrol engine makes 107 PS of peak power and 140 Nm of peak torque. Toyota promises a fuel economy of 17.8 km/l in the Yaris automatic.

5. Maruti Ciaz AT

The only BS6 sedan within the INR 10 lakh mark which is available with a conventional automatic gearbox (torque converter) is the Maruti Ciaz. It is also one of the highest-selling automatic sedans in the country today.

The Maruti Ciaz is the only BS6 sedan within the INR 10 lakh mark to be available with a conventional torque converter.

The Maruti Ciaz, apart from a standard 5-speed manual transmission, is also available with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The premium B-segment sedan employs a 1.5-litre petrol engine that features mild-hybrid technology and pumps out a maximum power output of 105 PS and a peak torque output of 138 Nm. With the 4-speed automatic gearbox, the fuel economy of Maruti Ciaz is claimed to be 20.04 km/l. Maruti Ciaz is one of the best automatic cars under 10 lakh in India.

Toyota Yaris Cross revealed - Japan & Europe’s Toyota RAV4-inspired small SUV [Update] https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-yaris-cross-toyota-rav4-inspired-small-suv-p320394 Thu, 23 Apr 2020 11:38:13 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320394 Update: Detailed specification tables added to the story.

The much-awaited Toyota Yaris Cross small SUV based on the Mk4 Toyota Yaris has been officially revealed. The all-new sub-compact SUV will go on sale in Japan at the end of this year and in Europe in 2021.

Toyota Yaris Cross Design

Toyota Yaris Cross Front Three Quarters
The Toyota Yaris Cross' greenhouse and C-pillar are reminiscent of the Toyota RAV4 compact SUV.

Despite being just a derivative of a hatchback, the Toyota Yaris Cross looks like a proper SUV. A high ground clearance, high-set bonnet, upright nose, large wheel arches, a straightish beltline and an almost flattish roofline play a big role in giving this model a true SUV character. The interior doesn’t have such extensive differences from the hatchback.

Constructed on the GA-B version of the TNGA platform, the Toyota Yaris Cross is 4,180 mm long, 1,765 mm wide and 1,560 mm tall. It has a 2,560 mm wheelbase.

Compared to the Toyota Yaris hatchback, the Toyota Yaris Cross is 240 mm longer, 20 mm wider and 90 mm taller. It has a 30 mm higher ground clearance. The 240 mm longer body has been achieved with a 60 mm longer front overhang and a 180 mm longer rear overhang, and the wheelbase is the same.

Toyota Yaris Cross Specifications

Toyota Yaris Cross Interior Dashboard
The Toyota Yaris Cross will come in petrol and petrol-electric hybrid variants.

The Toyota Yaris Cross, like the Toyota Yaris, will be available in petrol and petrol-electric hybrid variants. The petrol variant uses the M15A-FKS 1.5-litre direct-injection three-cylinder petrol engine (120 PS/145 Nm) in conjunction with a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT. An AWD system will be available optionally in the petrol variant.

The hybrid variant uses the M15A-FXE 1.5-litre direct-injection three-cylinder petrol engine along with the 1NM electric motor. The engine produces 91 PS at 5,500 rpm and 120 Nm of torque at 3,800-4,800 rpm. The 1NM electric motor generates 80 PS and 141 Nm of torque. There’s a 4.3 Ah Lithium-ion battery to store electricity. The maximum power offered by the hybrid system is 116 PS. An e-CVT is standard, while the E-Four electric AWD system will be optional. The AWD configurations will have an additional 1MM electric motor generating 1MM electric motor generates 5.3 PS and 5.3 Nm of torque.

For Europe, the Toyota Yaris Cross will be manufactured alongside the Toyota Yaris at the TMMF (Toyota Motor Manufacturing Factory) Onnaing factory, near Valenciennes in France. Toyota plans to roll out more than 1,50,00 units of this model annually from this manufacturing facility. For Japan, this small SUV will be manufactured domestically at Toyota Motor East Japan's Iwate factory.

Toyota Yaris Cross Indian Launch

Toyota Yaris Cross Rear Three Quarters Right Side
Toyota doesn't plan to launch the Yaris Cross in India.

The Toyota Yaris Cross isn’t intended for sale in India. Here, Toyota will piggyback on Suzuki for its small SUVs. The first one is reportedly coming this year, and it’s a sub-4 metre model - a rebadged Vitara Brezza. The next model, arriving probably in 2022, could be a premium small SUV (longer than 4,000 mm). However, that model could carry a unique design despite and share only the platform and core components with the donor model from Suzuki.

TKM to launch stripped-down Toyota Yaris for fleet buyers - Report https://indianautosblog.com/tkm-launch-stripped-down-toyota-yaris-fleet-buyers-p320295 Mon, 13 Apr 2020 14:00:57 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320295 With the discontinuation of the Toyota Etios this month, TKM has no presence in the fleet segment now. The company plans to launch a stripped-down, cheaper Toyota Yaris as a solution in the coming months.

Toyota Yaris Taxi J Eco
The prices of the Toyota Yaris currently start at INR 8.76 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The latest development has been confirmed by Naveen Soni, Senior VP - Sales and Customer Service, Toyota Kirloskar Motor. “Very soon, we should be looking at the possibility of a specced-down Yaris,” Soni said recently. To clarify that he was indeed referring to a stripped-down trim for fleet buyers, not a new base trim for private buyers, he confirmed that a “taxi-suitable, low-spec model” is under consideration.

Currently, the prices of the Toyota Yaris start at INR 8.76 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new base trim may not include features like projector headlamps, shark fin antenna, (15-inch) alloy wheels, height-adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable mirrors and 60:40 split rear seats. These features are included as standard in the current base trim (J).

The Toyota Yaris taxi should employ the familiar 2NR-FE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine. This naturally aspirated four-cylinder mill produces 107 PS at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. It returns a fuel economy of 17.1 km/l when had with a 6-speed manual transmission and 17.8 km/l when had with a continuously variable transmission. TKM is unlikely to offer the CVT option in the taxi trim.

TKM may offer a CNG version of the 2NR-FE engine in the taxi trim of the Toyota Yaris.

Reports say that a CNG engine option is also in the works for the Toyota Yaris in India. It is possible that TKM will offer the upcoming trim with this more economical engine option.

TKM mulling Toyota Yaris CNG, could launch it close to Diwali - Report https://indianautosblog.com/tkm-mulling-toyota-yaris-cng-could-launch-close-diwali-p319397 Fri, 10 Jan 2020 09:31:50 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319397 Toyota Kirloskar Motor is considering launching a CNG variant of the Yaris in India, says a new report from RushLane. If shown the green signal, the Yaris CNG could make it into the market close to Diwali this year.

Toyota Yaris India launch on April 24
The Toyota Yaris would be the only model in its segment with a CNG variant.

The Toyota Yaris was introduced in India almost 2 years back but simply couldn't catch-up with other sedans in its segment, such as the Maruti Ciaz and the Honda City, which already have a cult following and have been established for years now. Even an update given to it in the Q4 2019 didn't help.

Unlike its rivals, the Toyota Yaris isn't available with a diesel engine. While BS-VI emission norms are making diesel engine vehicles very expensive, there's no denying of the rivals still having a competitive advantage. A CNG variant would not only fix this situation for the Yaris but also make it a more appealing offering compared to diesel rivals because of being cheaper to buy and run.

The Toyota Yaris' 107 PS 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder petrol engine will soon get a BS-VI upgrade, as confirmed in our previous story. Like the maximum power, the maximum torque output (140 Nm) should remain the same. The fuel economy rating, however, could be lower than the BS-IV version's 17.1 km/l (with 6-speed MT)/17.8 km/l (with CVT). The CNG variant would be marginally lower on performance.

In terms of dimensions, the Toyota Yaris measures 4,425 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,550 mm and a ground clearance of 165 mm. It offers 476 litres of boot space.

The BS-VI Toyota Yaris, like the BS-IV version, will be sold in J, G, V and VX grades.
