The Toyota Hyryder CNG is available in S & G variants of the vehicle. Factory-fitted CNG can be purchased only with manual transmission. The CNG variant will be in addition to the Self-charging Strong Hybrid Electric as well as the Neo Drive variants, which are already available in the market and have received very encouraging responses from customers.

The Toyota Glanza, which was launched earlier this year, will now be available with a CNG variant in the S & G grades, along with a Manual Transmission powertrain.

The CNG variant in the Toyota Glanza has a 1197cc engine with a power output of 77.5 PS & delivers a superior driving experience. The E-CNG Glanza boasts of a fuel efficiency of 30.61 KM/KG. On the other hand, the Toyota Hyryder CNG comes with a 1.5-liter K-series engine & 5 Speed Manual Transmission and has a said mileage of 26.1 km/kg.

Toyota Glanza

The Glanza is priced between INR 7.01 lakh and INR 8.96 lakh (ex-showroom) in India and again, this is the sister car to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Toyota is offering a cash discount of INR 10,000 on the Glanza along with the same corporate discounts and exchange bonus as can be availed with the Urban Cruiser. That means there's an exchange bonus of INR 15,000 and a corporate discount of INR 5,000, taking total benefits up to INR 30,000.

Toyota Yaris

It is the Yaris that is available with the most discounts for December 2020. Priced between INR 9.16 lakh and INR 14.60 lakh (ex-showroom), the Yaris is available with total benefits of up to INR 50,000. That includes a cash discount of 20,000, the highest among all the three cars. Corporate discount on the Yaris stands at INR 15,000, again the highest of the lot. Further, you can also enjoy an exchange bonus of INR 15,000 on the Yaris.

Toyota is however not offering any benefits or discounts on the Innova Crysta Facelift, the Fortuner, the Camry Hybrid or the Vellfire MPV. It must also be noted that these discounts and offers can vary from state to state and from dealership to dealership as they are location specific. The list is in ascending order and all the vehicles considered are priced below INR 7 Lakh (Ex-showroom):

Maruti Suzuki WagonR

Mileage: 21.79 Kmpl

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been a successful brand name, running for more than 20 years now. The original tallboy hatchback is reputed for offering a spacious cabin, a no frill package and an overall value-for-money offering. However, the biggest USP of the new Wagon R is the kind of mileage figure it offers. The latest generation of the Maruti-Suzuki WagonR now gets a more accessible 1.0-litre engine option producing 68 hp, with a rated fuel efficiency of 21.79 Kmpl. For people seeking a bigger engine with a bit of punch, there’s also a 1.2-litre petrol engine similar to the one in Swift, which produces 83 bhp. However, the mileage for the K12 version, is rated at 20.52 kmpl. The highlight of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is if you are looking for a smaller capacity more frugal engine, the 1.0-litre engine is for you. Interestingly, this engine is also offered with the choice of an AMT gearbox with the same fuel efficiency numbers as the manual gearbox variants. On the other hand, if you are looking for a more punchy engine, there's the 1.2-litre engine. All of this comes in at an affordable price range between INR 5-7 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki Alto

Mileage: 22.05 Kmpl

Next in line is another small car from the house of Maruti-Suzuki and another legendary moniker. The most affordable car of India is also the highest sold car in India for several years now thanks to Maruti-Suzuki's brand name and value-for-money offering. However, the biggest USP of the Maruti Suzuki Alto is the mileage, a factor that many budget car buyers keep as priority. The Maruti-Suzuki Alto gets a 800 CC engine option with a 48 BHP output and a mileage figure of 22.05 kmpl. The small engine is BS-VI compatible and the most fuel-efficient small engine in India. While there is a bigger 1.0-litre engine in the Alto powering the K1o model, it has now been discontinued. Instead, Maruti Suzuki launched the S-Presso hatchback with the same engine. Coming back to the Maruti Suzuki Alto, it can be bought in a budget ranging from INR 3 lakh to INR 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota Glanza

Mileage: 23.87 Kmpl

While many may think that the smaller the car, more the mileage, the Indian car market would beg to differ. The top three BS-VI petrol cars to have the maximum mileage in India are all bigger and expensive in price as compared to what many will perceive. Take for example, the Toyota Glanza premium hatchback which returns a mileage of 23.87 kmpl. The hatchback is based on the Maruti Baleno and is manufactured by Maruti-Suzuki itself under the trade agreement. Both cars get the same exact mechanicals underneath. Despite the mileage numbers and Toyota's trusted name attached, the Glanza is yet to receive widespread acclaim and the sales numbers Toyota would have hoped for. As for the engine, the Toyota Glanza is powered by a 1.2-litre direct-injection petrol engine that makes 90bhp.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Mileage: 23.87 Kmpl

Joining the Toyota Glanza in this list is the Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, on which the former is based. This also means that the mileage figures of both are exactly the same - 23.87 kmpl. However, what makes the Maruti Baleno best selling premium hatchback in India and also among the best selling vehicles in the county is the fact that it bears the trusted and revered Maruti-Suzuki brand name. Apart from that, both the Glanza and Baleno get the same engine - a 1.2-litre direct-injection petrol engine making 90bhp. The Maruti Baleno is also the second most fuel efficient car of India sharing spot with Toyota Glanza.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire AMT

Mileage: 24.12 Kmpl

Finally, coming to the winner of the most fuel-efficient BS-VI petrol car of India - it is Maruti Suzuki Dzire AMT. Before the BS-6 norms kicked in, the Maruti Dzire was the most fuel-efficient car of India, albeit in its diesel avatar. Now that Marut-Suzuki has discontinued its diesel engine lineup, it still is the most fuel efficient car in India as a petrol-powered car. Powered by a 1.2-litre BS-6 petrol engine, the Dzire returns an average of 24.12 kmpl , but only with an AMT gearbox. If you are looking to buy the manual version, the Dzire returns a mileage of 23.26 kmpl, which is still among the top 5 most fuel efficient figures in India.

The new Toyota finance schemes include a unique assured buyback offer of 55% on the Toyota Yaris and Toyota Glanza models. The company is also providing a low EMI scheme of INR 9,999 for Toyota Innova Crysta. Along with that, there is also a 3-month EMI deferment offer applicable on the Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Camry Hybrid, Yaris, and Glanza.

In other news, Toyota has reported a significant growth in domestic sales in June 2020. The brand has sold a total of 3,866 units last month which is a growth of 235% over May 2020.

While the AMT gearbox offered affordable and economic automatic driving experience on the table, it still falls short of driving pleasure, with shift shocks being the most noteworthy let-down. There are some budget cars which continue to rely on CVTs and torque converters, for a smoother and more relaxed drive.

1. Honda Amaze CVT

The Mk2 Honda Amaze has garnered tremendous response as compared to the model it replaced for a number of reasons, one of which is the availability of a CVT option in even the diesel engine variant. The 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol motor of the Honda Amaze CVT makes 90 PS of maximum power output and 110 Nm of peak torque output. The Maruti Baleno is currently available with two 1.2-litre petrol engines, one with mild hybrid technology and the other without it. The CVT gearbox is mated to the 1.2-litre petrol engine sans the mild-hybrid technology, which produces 83 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque output. 4. Toyota Yaris CVT

The Toyota Yaris might not have struck the chord of Indians on a large scale as Toyota India expected at the time of its launch. The Toyota Yaris is equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which can be had with a CVT across the range. The petrol engine makes 107 PS of peak power and 140 Nm of peak torque. Toyota promises a fuel economy of 17.8 km/l in the Yaris automatic.

The Maruti Ciaz, apart from a standard 5-speed manual transmission, is also available with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The premium B-segment sedan employs a 1.5-litre petrol engine that features mild-hybrid technology and pumps out a maximum power output of 105 PS and a peak torque output of 138 Nm. With the 4-speed automatic gearbox, the fuel economy of Maruti Ciaz is claimed to be 20.04 km/l. Maruti Ciaz is one of the best automatic cars under 10 lakh in India.

The lower entry-price is the result of the introduction of a new configuration - G MT. This configuration is powered by the K12M 1.2-litre VVT naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 61 kW (82.9 PS) at. 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. It is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. The fuel economy rating is 21.01 km/l. The same engine can be teamed with a CVT optionally, although that brings down the fuel economy to 19.56 km/l.

The Toyota Glanza can be had even with even the more advanced and more powerful K12N 1.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 66 kW (89.7 PS) at 6,000 rpm and. 113 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. This engine is assisted by a 12-volt mild-hybrid system that not only makes the driving smoother and slightly better in performance but also results in a much better fuel economy of 23.87 km/l. On selecting this engine, a 5-speed manual transmission becomes standard.

In terms of features, the G grade includes climate control, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-tone alloy wheels, steering-mounted audio controls and push-button start-stop system. Since its June 2019 launch, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has sold over 11,000 units of the Glanza. It is offered with a longer, 3-year/1,00,000 km warranty plan instead of its donor car's 2-year/40,000 km warranty plan.

The Toyota Glanza is just the first product out of the Toyota-Suzuki joint venture. Toyota Kirloskar Motor plans to launch a twin model of the Vitara Brezza, Ciaz and the Ertiga also. There'll be shared EVs as well. Also, Toyota will co-develop a C-segment MPV with Suzuki and supply it a rebadged version of the same.

The arrival of newer rivals means that the game has just become fiercer, with most new cars promising best in class fuel efficiency figure in their respective segment. And with the rise of petrol cars back in the market, the competition has only become more intense.

Following is the list of the top five most fuel-efficient petrol cars in India priced between INR 5-10 lakh (ex-showroom), all of which surprisingly belong are Maruti Suzuki-made:-

Maruti Baleno/Toyota Glanza – 23.87 km/l

The Baleno has been a runaway success for Maruti Suzuki from day one, as it has got all the parameters sorted, be its smooth and aerodynamic design, spacious interiors and a sufficiently long list of features. Meanwhile, the Toyota Glanza, which is nothing but a rebadged version of the Baleno was launched as the first product from the joint venture between Suzuki and Toyota this year. It has been a decent performer for Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

Both the cars can be had with the new K12N 1.2-litre DualJet, Dual VVT petrol engine that produces 66 kW (90 PS) and 113 Nm of torque. With this engine, which comes linked to a 5-speed manual transmission and is blessed with Smart Hybrid technology, these hatchbacks can achieve a fuel economy of 23.87 km/l - the best rating for a petrol car priced between INR 5-10 lakh (ex-showroom) in the country. Prices for Baleno Smart Hybrid start at INR 7.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the Toyota Glanza is priced from INR 7.22 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Maruti Swift – 22 km/l

The hatchback which transformed the perception of people towards small cars almost thirteen years ago, the Maruti Suzuki Swift, is nothing short of a revolution in India. The Swift did redefine the hatchback segment with jts taut proportions, sporty styling and good performance. And now, the Swift, which is currently in its third generation version, has upped the ante with enhanced styling and more premium features, while retaining the original silhouette of the previous two avatars of it.

What the latest Maruti Swift also has retained is the tried and tested 1.2-litre K12M engine from its first and second generation versions. The naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine develops 83 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of maximum torque. It returns 22 km/l, irrespective of the transmission selected: 5-speed manual or 5-speed automated manual. Maruti Ciaz – 21.56 km/l

With the Ciaz, Maruti Suzuki has achieved great the premium sub-compact sedan segment, which was dominated by Honda City for a very long time. With the segment-best wheelbase which translates into an incredibly spacious cabin, the Maruti Ciaz offers a great value for money package, considering the fact that it undercuts all of its rivals when it comes to pricing.

However, the real forte of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the fuel efficiency it delivers. The facelifted model, which was launched in 2018, saw the introduction of an all new 1.5-litre petrol engine, which also got the same Smart Hybrid technology as its diesel counterpart. The Swift's sedan counterpart, the Dzire, is a very popular sub-4 metre sedan, as it's affordable and easy to maintain and run. Maruti Suzuki had launched it in May 2017.

It is the practicality of the Dzire which has consistently kept it one of India's best-selling cars for a long time. It may have seen a complete overhaul in mid-2017, but what it still continues to soldier on is the same 1.2-litre K12M petrol engine from the previous generation models.

The naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine produces a maximum power output of 83 PS and a maximum torque output of 114 Nm. It can be had with a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. Maruti Baleno RS – 21.1 km/l

For those who love to be behind the steering wheel most of the times, Maruti Suzuki offers the Baleno RS – a hotter looking and sportier avatar of the standard Baleno. The RS variant comes with a few cosmetic add ons like revised front and rear bumpers, rear disc brake, more sportier suspension setup and a distinctive front grille.

However, the biggest change which differentiates it from the standard Baleno is the K10C 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine. With a maximum power output of 101 PS and peak torque output of 150 Nm, the Baleno RS is the most powerful hatchback from Maruti Suzuki till date. For it's a Maruti Suzuki, the fuel economy rating is good too - 21.1 km/l.  This hatchback's price was recently slashed by INR 1 lakh to INR 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom India).

The Toyota Glanza, as most would know by now, is a rebadged Maruti Baleno. It’s differentiated from the donor car with a unique two-slat 3D chrome front grille. There are two equipment lines to select from, namely G and V. They are equivalent to the original model’s Zeta and Alpha equipment lines respectively.

Automatic, LED projector headlamps with DRL follow-me-home function, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED rear combination lamps with light guide, UV protection glass, automatic climate control and 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and smartphone-based navigation are some of the equipment highlights. Most key features are standard.

On the safety front, the Toyota Glanza comes with dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, ISOFIX child-seat anchorages, reverse parking sensors, reverse parking camera, speed alert system and more.

There are two engine options available, both BS-VI 1.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol units. One produces 61 kW (82.9 PS) and 113 Nm of torque and comes paired with a 5-speed MT or a CVT. The fuel economy delivered by this engine is 21.01 km/l (MT)/19.56 km/l CVT. The other develops 66 kW (89.7 PS) and 113 Nm of torque and comes linked to a 5-speed MT. It features mild-hybrid technology and returns a much higher fuel economy of 23.87 km/l.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor offers the Toyota Glanza with a 3-year/1,00,000 km standard warranty. The Maruti Baleno’s standard warranty coverage, on the other hand, is for 2-year/40,000 km. Back to the new model, the warranty can be extended to 5-year/2,20,000 km optionally. Five colour options are available - Cafe White, Sportin' Red, Insta Blue, Gaming Grey and Enticing Silver.

On the outside, it is very hard to differentiate between the two since both the cars share the exact same looks and dimensions. The Glanza comes with Toyota branding all around. Most of the visual bits on both the models are the same, such as the LED projector headlamps with DRL, the round fog lamps, the 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and the LED tail lamps. The one and only thing which differentiates the Glanza from its donor car is its unique two-slat 3D chrome front grille; take that away and it will be impossible to make out if comes from TKM or Maruti Suzuki.

The Toyota Glanza is offered in only five colour options including Cafe White, Sportin' Red, Insta Blue, Gaming Grey and Enticing Silver. On the other hand, the Maruti Baleno comes in six different colours including Nexa Blue, Premium Silver, Phoenix Red, Magma Grey, Arctic White and Fire Red.

Step inside the Glanza, and you'll find out that cabin and the dashboard layout has been carried over as it is from the Baleno. Sure, there is Toyota branding, but that's the only difference. The instrument panel, centre console, dashboard, steering wheel, floor console, upholstery and trim all are in the same design. TKM has renamed the SmartPlay Studio infotainment system to Smart Playcast, as if the original name wasn't cheesy enough.

The Glanza is offered in two trims, namely G and V. The Baleno, on the other hand, is offered in four trims including Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The Glanza's G and V trims are equivalent to the Baleno's Zeta and Alpha trims respectively. The Maruti Baleno is available with two BS-IV engines as well. One is a 1.3L turbocharged diesel engine producing 55.2 kW (75 PS) at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. The other is a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine that develops 72 kW (97.8 PS) at 5,500 and 150 Nm of torque at 1,700- 4,500 rpm. Both are coupled to a 5-speed MT as standard. The diesel unit returns 27.39 km/l, while the petrol unit returns 21.1 km/l.

The Maruti Baleno's prices start at INR 5,58,602* and extend up to INR 8,73,221*. The Toyota Glanza's prices range from INR 7,21,900-8,90,200*. The standard warranty coverage of the Toyota-badged model is better - 3-year/1,00,000 km. The donor car's standard warranty coverage is 2-year/40,000 km.

The Toyota Glanza will be equipped with standard features like automatic climate control, height-adjustable driver seat, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, navigation and voice command functionality, dual airbags, 16-inch precision-cut dual-tone alloy wheels, steering-mounted audio controls and push-button start as standard. The Toyota Glanza's prices may start at over INR 7 lakh (ex-showroom), and its competition will be the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and the upcoming Tata Altroz. As opposed to the Maruti Baleno's 2-year/40,000 km standard warranty, the Toyota Glanza will come with 3-year/1,00,000 km standard warranty.

The Toyota Glanza’s launch is scheduled to take place on 6 June. It is said to come with a 3 year/1,00,000 km warranty as standard. The Maruti Baleno’s standard warranty coverage is 2-year/40,000 km. So, the rebadged car will be slightly costlier, and its prices may start at over INR 7 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has initiated staff training and stocking units to prepare for the Glanza's launch. Earlier this month, the upcoming car's features, specs and configurations had leaked online. The new hatchback will be available in two trims, namely G and V (comparable to Maruti Baleno's Zeta and Alpha grades respectively).

The Toyota Glanza will be loaded with the usual paraphernalia expected in a premium B-segment hatchback, such as automatic climate control, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, navigation and voice command functionality, dual airbags, 16-inch precision-cut dual-tone alloy wheels, steering-mounted audio controls and push-button start. The engine options on the Toyota Glanza will include a BS-VI 1.2L VVT four-cylinder petrol engine (82.94PS/113Nm) and a BS-VI 1.2L Dual Jet Dual VVT four-cylinder petrol engine (89.74PS/113Nm) featuring a dual-battery mild-hybrid system. The former will be paired with a standard 5-speed MT or an optional CVT. It is claimed to deliver 21.01 km/l (MT)/19.56 km/l (CVT). The hybridised engine will be linked to a 5-speed MT (only available on G grade) and deliver 23.87 km/l.

The price estimation for the upcoming Toyota Glaza is kept at INR 8 lakh (ex-showroom) mark for the entry-level G (MT) grade (with MT), which is slightly higher compared to the Maruti Baleno's corresponding configuration. A three-year/1,00,000km warranty will be standard. In comparison, the Maruti Baleno comes with a standard two-year/40,000km warranty.
