Any guesses for how much? I'll give you a hint. It appears to be a record for a publicly offered Skyline.

It is being said that the winning bidder paid $1.357 million, including a buyer's premium, for Paul Walker's Fast and Furious R34 Skyline GT-R. Are you surprised? I am not.

First of all, it's a Nissan GT-R. It has to be expensive. And its value already increased as it was driven by a beloved enthusiast movie star, Paul Walker, in one of the most popular Hollywood movie series, Fast and Furious. The car is a piece in itself. The iconic Bayside Blue colour is a head turner. And not to forget the immense fan-following of the vehicle too.

Next-gen Nissan GT-R will be preceded by a concept car, says Nissan design boss https://indianautosblog.com/next-gen-nissan-gt-r-preceded-concept-car-says-nissan-design-boss-p311532 Wed, 01 Aug 2018 09:02:18 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=311532 The next-gen Nissan GT-R is one of the most anticipated supercars right now. Before Nissan completes the development of the road-ready version, it will showcase a concept version to keep the potential customers and enthusiasts intrigued.

2017 Nissan GT-R front three quarters
Like the current Nissan GT-R (pictured), the next-gen will look muscular and menacing.

The current generation Nissan GT-R, which arrived in 2007, was preceded by two concepts. One (Nissan GT-R Concept) was a surprise debut at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show, and the other (Nissan GT-R Proto) followed at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show. Expecting a similar phased introduction for the next-gen GT-R, we asked Alfonso Albaisa, Senior VP (Global Design), Nissan, at the roundtable yesterday in Chennai, if we will see a concept for the successor. His one word answer: “Naturally.”

Albaisa made it crystal clear that the next-gen GT-R is not related to the limited edition GTR 50. He said:

Cars like GT-R, Z and Q60, these are icons. These show what you can do. Mech, aero and structurally...The GTR 50 is not the next GTR. Its a celebration about the people behind GTR. They are really not concept cars, they are collector cars.

The ten-year-old Nissan GT-R is a widely admired everyday supercar. Last fiscal, Nissan sold over 2,000 units in its core markets. Latest reports say that the next-gen Nissan GT-R's development is still in the early phases, and the final design is not ready. Like the current model, the redesign will look very muscular. A newly developed platform will underpin the halo vehicle.

Nissan wants to introduce the all-new GT-R as the quickest car in its segment, it is reported. It may use some sort of electrification to meet targets, although there’s no final decision on that yet. The current GT-R sports the VR38DETT 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine that puts out 570 PS and 637 Nm of torque. The same engine is tuned to deliver 600 PS and 652 Nm of torque in the Godzilla’s NISMO variant.

Next-gen Nissan GT-R may be a hybrid - Report https://indianautosblog.com/next-gen-nissan-gt-r-hybrid-p231951 Mon, 16 May 2016 17:55:59 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=231951 Unlikely to go on sale before 2018.

The second generation Nissan GT-R has long been speculated as a hybrid vehicle and now adding credibility to that speculation, is Nissan's Chief Creative Officer, Shiro Nakamura, who has laid emphasis on electrification for cars.

Speaking to Automotive News, Nakamura said that it shouldn't feel like a surprise if the next-gen GT-R turns out to be electrified.

2017 Nissan GT-R front three quarters
The first-gen Nissan GT-R was given its second facelift at the 2016 New York Auto Show in March and is set to go on for another couple of years.

"Electrification is almost inevitable for any car", said Mr. Nakamura signifying the importance of electric power for future Nissan vehicles. "If the next-generation GT-R has some electrification, nobody would be surprised at that time," he added. The new generation model, along with better performance, should also be more fuel efficient, said the design chief.

While the second facelift of the GT-R is on its way to showrooms, Nissan designers are busy readying the much-awaited second generation model. Mr. Nakamura said that the stylists are tweaking the car's proportions to improve driving dynamics and aerodynamics. The company also wants to work on boosting the 3.8-litre twin-turbo engine's fuel efficiency.

The hybrid powertrain's combustion engine will probably be a heavily revised version of the current 3.8-litre twin-turbo engine.

Mr. Nakamura said that the first step in the all-new Nissan GT-R's development will be developing the layout and packaging which itself will depend largely on what kind of drivetrain is to be employed. He didn't reveal the second-gen GT-R's launch timeline, but given that the current-gen model was given significant updates, it's unlikely to be any time before 2018.

5 little known things of the 2017 Nissan GT-R https://indianautosblog.com/2017-nissan-gt-r-facts-p226395 Thu, 24 Mar 2016 16:49:37 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=226395 Nissan's show-stopper at the 2016 New York International Auto Show is the highly-anticipated 2017 Nissan GT-R, which will launch in India in September. Here are 5 little known things of the 2017 Nissan GT-R.

Second refresh

2017 Nissan GT-R front three quarters
The Nissan GT-R is being facelifted for the second time.

The 2017 Nissan GT-R is a facelift, but not the first one. The Japanese supercar was given its first change in late 2010 for the 2011 model year. With that said, the second facelift is the final one before the all-new Nissan GT-R arrives around 2019.

'Takumi' built engine

With the second facelift, the Nissan GT-R's engine continues being handcrafted by its own 'Takumi' technician. 'Takumi' is a Japanese term used to describe a master craftsman, and at Nissan's engine factory in Yokohama, Japan, master craftsmen hand-build every engine for the Nissan GT-R.

New exhaust system and revised turbocharger

2017 Nissan GT-R VR38DETT engine
The VR38DETT engine's turbocharger has been revised for more boost.

The VR38DETT 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6 engine now produces 565 hp and 467 lb.-ft. (633 Nm) of torque, up by 20 hp and 4 lb.-ft. (5 Nm) respectively. These increments are a result of individual ignition-timing control of the six cylinders and revision of the two turbochargers for more boost. The engine is mated to a thoroughly refined 6-speed dual-clutch transmission that provides smoother shifts, claims the company. The Godzilla's grunt has never been this good, thanks to a new lightweight titanium exhaust system and Active Sound Enhancement (ASE) system.

New suspension and tires

The second facelift is more than just about power. The cornering abilities have also been improved. The body structure is more rigid now, the suspension is new and the tyres are wrapped around new 20-inch 15-spoke forged aluminium wheels - together making the GT-R grippier, more stable through quick lateral transitions and better at cornering.

Lighter seats, cushions and lesser buttons

2017 Nissan GT-R interior
The interior is more upmarket and ergonomic.

Nissan has redesigned the cabin with a new "horizontal flow" dashboard. The instrument panel is wrapped in a single, seamless piece of hand-selected Nappa leather stitched with immense precision. The instrument panel leather's cushion layer has been updated with a new, thinner material for weight reduction. Also lighter, are the front seats, thanks to a new side-support construction method.

The shift paddles are now mounted to the steering wheel, in order to allow the drivers to make the gearshifts without taking their hands off the steering wheel. The switches of the navigation and audio controls have been reduced from 27 to just 11 in the 2017 Nissan GT-R.

The 7-inch touchscreen display is succeeded by an 8-inch - the new capacitive touch-panel monitor features large icons on the display screen, while the new Display Command control on the centre console is easier to operate, promises Nissan.

Nissan GT-R to be launched in September 2016 - Auto Expo 2016 https://indianautosblog.com/nissan-gt-r-auto-expo-2016-p213047 Wed, 03 Feb 2016 14:16:42 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=213047 Reaches 0-100 km/h in 2.84 seconds and hits a top speed of 315 km/h.

This isn't the first time Nissan is showcasing the Nissan GT-R at an Auto Expo. This time, however, the company confirmed that the sportscar will be launched in September 2016.

Nissan GT-R front three quarters at Auto Expo 2016

The Nissan GT-R is based on a unique Premium Midship platform which was created exclusively for it. The car is so special for the company, that they not only created a new platform for it, but also allow only a special few to build its engine.

Takumi Kurosawa, Tsunemi Ooyama, Izumi Shioya and Nobumitsu Gozu - these are the sole assemblers of the engines that power every GT-R plying on the streets in both Japan and worldwide. It's not "a larger and heavier V8 or V12" engine, Nissan says, but rather a compact yet powerful twin-turbo V6 engine. Each engine is hand-built at the company's Yokohama plant in Japan.

The 3.8-litre VR38DETT twin-turbo V6 engine puts out 404 kW (550 PS/542 hp) and 632 Nm (64.5 kg-m) of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a paddle-shifted sequential 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. The enormous engine output allows the GT-R to clock 0-100 km/h in 2.84 seconds and hit a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h).

Noteworthy features of the Nissan GT-R include LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, 20-inch forged aluminium wheels, LED tail lights, Recardo seats and interior, 8-way power adjustment for the driver's seat and 4-way adjustment for the passenger seat, dual individual rear seats, carbon fibre trimmed centre console, NissanConnect Premium infotainment system with 7-inch touch screen display and 11-speaker Bose audio system.

The Nissan GT-R is planned to be launched in India in TBA.

According to Carwale, the Nissan GT-R will launch in India in 2016, nearly eight years after the GT-R was globally launched in 2008. It must be mentioned that there are a few units of the GT-R in India imported individually by celebrities and luxury car sellers, and last year, a senior official all but confirmed that the GT-R would be the halo model for India.

There are already a few units of the GT-R in India imported individually by celebrities and luxury car sellers.

Reported to be introduced in its facelifted guise at the Auto Expo 2016, the Nissan GT-R will be marketed as a niche offering that will serve as an image booster for Nissan India. It will rival the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo in the Indian market, and could be priced lower than both the Germans.

The GT-R sources power from a 3.8-liter twin-turbo petrol V6 that makes 545 PS and 627 Nm of torque, which is sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed sequential dual-clutch transmission. The car was also showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo.

The facelifted model is already under development, as indicated by spyshots, and will likely be introduced to the market as 2017 model, sometime this year. Speculative renderings from INDAV Design show how the exterior of the facelifted 2017 Nissan GT-R may look like. Expect the changes to be mainly on the bumpers, headlamps and tail lamps.

The 2017 Nissan GT-R will likely be powered by the same 550 PS 3.8-litre VR38DETT twin-turbo V6 engine from now, but it may be tweaked for performance and efficiency hike. In its second generation though, the Nissan GT-R will adopt a hybrid powertrain to become possibly the most powerful GT-R ever in factory specifications.

There have been various rumours about its launch time, with some reports saying that it may not be launched even before 2020. One thing's clear though, the facelifted model will help prolong the life of the first generation model by around two years, making 2019 a possible year for next-gen model's market launch.

2016 Nissan GT-R Track Edition - 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show https://indianautosblog.com/2016-nissan-gt-r-track-edition-2015-frankfurt-motor-show-p192917 Wed, 16 Sep 2015 17:43:20 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=192917 Track Edition engineered by Nismo.

Nissan has unveiled the 2016 Nissan GT-R Track Edition at the IAA 2015 in Frankfurt. The high-spec variant of the GT-R is engineered by Nismo, and borrows cues from the full-blown Nissan GT-R Nismo.

Compared to the regular GT-R, the Track edition adds special carbon-fiber air ducts in the front lip spoiler, new front and rear brake cooling air guides for optimum brake temperature and stopping power and a revised suspension, which includes specialized Bilstein DampTronic gas pressure shock absorbers and higher spring rates.

Inside, it features a two tone red and black interior with generous helping of carbon fiber. The seats, steering wheel and gear selector are upholstered in leather with white contrast stitching.

Under the hood is a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 that makes 545 PS and 627 Nm of torque, which is sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed sequential dual-clutch transmission. It is mounted to the rear of the chassis, thus becoming the world's first independent rear transaxle all-wheel drive car.

Tokyo Live - Nissan GT-R GT3 and GT-R Nismo N-Attack package https://indianautosblog.com/nissan-gt-r-gt3-nismo-n-attack-package-tokyo-live-p163839 Mon, 12 Jan 2015 04:28:41 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=163839 New GT-R GT3 race car is improved in over many aspects.

At the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon, Nissan unveiled its new and improved GT3 race car for the next FIA GT3 season as well as an even hardcore N-Attack package for the Nissan GT-R Nismo.

Nissan's contender for the next GT3 season is based on the 2015 GT-R road car, but stripped down and tuned to FIA regulations. Compared to last year's racecar, the 2015 Nismo GT-R GT3 is lighter, more aerodynamic and more efficient than ever before. Nissan claims that the car also has improved weight distribution between the front and rear for better handling.

Otherwise, it's powered by the same VR38DETT 3.8 liter V6 Twin-turbo engine producing 550 PS and 675 Nm of torque, which is transferred to the rear wheels via a six speed Hewland sequential gearbox.

Also kept for display is a GT-R Nismo fitted with the N-Attack package, which stands for Nurburgring Attack. With the extreme package, Nissan is offering the same setup and enhancements that allowed the GT-R Nismo to lap the Nurburgring race track in an impressive 7:08.679, securing the volume production car lap record.

New Nissan & Datsun cars for 2015 - IAB Picks https://indianautosblog.com/nissan-datsun-model-plans-2015-p162913 Sat, 27 Dec 2014 08:05:00 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=162913 Nissan is one of the global car manufacturers who seemed to have gotten everything right in India, yet are unable to generate volumes. The company has a manufacturing facility capable of 480,000 units/annum, products that are extensively localized, well engineered and priced well. However, on the sales front, Nissan and Datsun have had several disappointments.

Undeterred, the Japanese company will be entering 2015 with a high focus on its Datsun brand. The Nissan brand is unlikely to see much action until 2016 sources have told Indian Autos Blog.

Datsun Go+:

Datsun Go+ Review
The Go+ is based on the Go, but features a larger boot, or an extra row of child seats depending on your use.

The second Datsun product for India will launch on January 15 in a total of four variants. The Go+ aims to appeal to the first time car buyer who wants something unique, like a large 347 liter boot for example. Powered by the same 1.2-liter petrol engine that is seen on the Go, the Go+ claims an efficiency of 20.62 km/l. Its selling point would be its third row of seats.

Nissan Terrano AWD:

Nissan Terrano rear three quarters
The Terrano AWD will come out in 2015, sources have confirmed.

The Renault Duster got the AWD variant this year, and 2015 will see its badge-engineered cousin, the Terrano get it too. Nissan will continue with the same recipe as the Duster AWD, which means that features such as ASR and ESP would be offered on the car. Expect the Terrano AWD to come in at least two variants.

Special editions on the Nissan Sunny and Micra:

Nissan Almera Sportech front three quarters at the 2014 Thailand International Motor Expo
The Sunny and Micra, despite being well engineered, don't figure in the buying list of many.

Nissan's volume oriented products are clearly not selling in desired numbers, despite being refreshed extensively. The Micra and Sunny are not even in the consideration list of several buyers due to low brand recall and to generate some buzz around these products, Nissan would be looking to periodically launch special edition variants on these cars.

Datsun Redi-Go:

Datsun redi-GO at the 2014 Indonesia International Motor Show front
The Redi-Go could get an AMT gearbox.

The Datsun Redi-Go will truly see the low-cost brand attack competitors where it hurts most: the price. Pitted below the Go, the Redi-Go will be a modern vehicle as its based on the new CMF-A platform, which it shares with the Renault XBA which also launches next year. The Redi-Go could possibly get an AMT (automated manual transmission) as well and should bring a sales boost for the company.

Nissan GT-R:

2015 Nissan GT-R front
The GT-R could finally launch in India next year.

Nissan India has previously stated that it was considering launching the GT-R in India, and 2015 could finally see the launch of 'Godzilla'. The GT-R will no doubt be a brand-shaping tool for the company, which pulled the plug on the 370Z in February this year. Hopefully, the GT-R would see better fortunes than the 370Z owing to its cult status.

Report - Nissan India mulling Infiniti, GT-R for launch; Work on small SUV underway https://indianautosblog.com/nissan-india-mulling-infiniti-gt-r-p152158 Wed, 08 Oct 2014 05:33:36 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=152158 Premium arm of Nissan could be introduced as a rival to the German trio.

Nissan is mulling the possibility of launching its premium brand Infiniti in India, the company's chairman for India, Africa and West Asia, Mr. Takashi Hata, told Live Mint. The company's flagship product, the GT-R, is also under consideration for a launch.

The GT-R is Nissan's flagship product.

However, a company source told the publication that it would take at least three-four years for these plans to materialize. The Indian luxury market which is comprised of the German trio (Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW), Jaguar Land Rover and Volvo accounts for annual sales of 40,000 units. Mr. Hata said that if he was convinced that the premium cars would "drive up the value of the brand", they would certainly be launched.

The publication reports that Infiniti - if launched in the country - could have a localized approach by way of assembly through knocked down kits (CKD).

The Q30 could be an ideal product for Infiniti in India. Seen here is the concept version.

Speaking about the Nissan brand, Mr. Hata said that the company has internally started working on a smaller SUV, which would be launched in 2016 if not 2015. Currently, Nissan's only offering in the SUV space is the badge-engineered Terrano.

Report - Nissan India to launch GT-R https://indianautosblog.com/nissan-gt-r-india-launch-p136232 Sat, 05 Jul 2014 14:20:33 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=136232 Nissan will launch its flagship GT-R in India, as per a report on Autocar India. Until now, the company was reportedly worried about our country's fuel quality, preventing Nissan from bringing the GT-R to India.

It must be mentioned that there are a few units of the GT-R in India imported individually. Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar and India's first F1 driver Narain Karthikeyan are two private owners. The GT-R was also showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo by Nissan India.

2015 Nissan GT-R front quarters
The 2015 version of the GT-R was shown last year at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The 2015 edition of the GT-R was revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show in November last year. The car is powered by the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 developing 550 PS at 6,400 rpm and 632 Nm of torque between 3,200 rpm to 5,800 rpm. A 6-speed auto gearbox is used to send power to all four wheels.

Significant to the 2015 model is an all-new "precision-constructed, multi-material hybrid body", that combines steel, carbon fiber and die-cast aluminum to achieve high stiffness and light weight, says Nissan. Other improvements made in the car include a modified front stabilizer, new bush links, electronic control of shock absorber valves, better brakes, multi LED headlights and an optional carbon fiber rear wing.

Earlier this year, Nissan India pulled out the 370Z sportscar citing lack of demand.

Competitors: Porsche 911, Jaguar F-Type, Audi R8 (in terms of price)

Expected Price: INR 1.2-1.5 crores ex-showroom

Rendering - Will the 2018 Nissan GT-R look this radical? https://indianautosblog.com/2018-nissan-gt-r-rendering-p109800 Thu, 19 Dec 2013 13:11:20 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=109800 Auto enthusiast forum Wild Speed have dreamed up the next generation Nissan GT-R (2018 Nissan GT-R) through an image editor.

Its hard to put a finger on which Nissan concept this render is based on, but will you mistake this for a Lexus or a Porsche?

Work on the next Nissan GT-R has already begun with an estimated arrival time of late 2017. The current GT-R (R35) has received no less than six updates since its launch in 2007. And according to a report that appeared on Motor Trend around this time last year, there are more updates (like the one shown at the Tokyo Motor Show last month) planned for the model to keep it in production until 2017.

Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn was noted green-lighting the development of the next generation model and extensive changes to the exterior and the powertrain were also reported. The car would receive a complete external makeover to maximize the aerodynamics, and improve downforce.

Claims are made that Nissan's future everyday supercar would receive a 3.7-liter hybrid powertrain with a 600 hp combined output. To cut down CO2 emissions, the engine could gain cylinder deactivation technology and a start-stop system.
