The new Mahindra Thar celebrates 7 decades of M&M’s rich heritage and 4x4 legacy. It offers a unique combination of an iconic design and breath-taking performance, the latter being possible with the powerful 2.0L mStallion TGDi Petrol engine and 2.2L mHawk Diesel engine.

Full White Mahindra Thar with Red Highlights is a Head-Turner https://indianautosblog.com/white-mahindra-thar-p324202 Tue, 10 Aug 2021 05:15:15 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=324202 The new Mahindra Thar is available in several colour options including Red Rage, Mystic Copper, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black, and more. Irrespective of its paint scheme, the off-road-capable SUV has an immense road presence. However, taking things a notch higher, a Mahindra Thar owner has got his vehicle painted in full white. The result is indeed eye-catching.

Mahindra Thar White Front Left

We can see in the pictures that this particular Mahindra Thar has been given a full white paint job. Most of the parts have been covered in white. And surprisingly, the SUV looks good in this avatar. The blacked-out headlights and bonnet hooks act as contrasting elements enhancing the overall front look. We also like the red hooks on the front bumper and the red skid plate.

At the back of this Mahindra Thar, the red taillights and fog lights work their charm over the full white paint scheme. The spare wheel cover has a neatly done black portion that keeps the boredom away. The hardtop of this model has been finished in white, too, however, the black windows provide a good balance. Similarly, the large-size aftermarket alloy wheels with wider tyres ensure that the overall side profile of the SUV is not compromised.

Mahindra Thar White Rear

To be honest, the full white treatment on this Mahindra Thar does not look bad at all. Yes, it is going to take a lot of effort to maintain the SUV in its mint condition but the amount of attention it would draw out on the roads should be worth the trouble. Don’t you think?

We have come across multiple modified Mahindra Thar models in the past and most of them were tuned to look more badass and off-road oriented. This one, however, has an elegant touch to it courtesy of the white colour and we’re quite confident that it could also handle off-road conditions without breaking a sweat. What do you have to say about it?

It is known among enthusiasts for its modern looks, decently equipped cabin and off-road capabilities. The second-gen Mahindra Thar is a true off-roader. But is it capable enough to compete with the Toyota Fortuner? Watch the video embedded below, which shows an off-road test between Mahindra Thar and Toyota Fortuner.

This video has been uploaded by a YouTube channel named Sanjeet Jaat. In the video, the vlogger shows a brand new Mahindra Thar 4X4 manual and Toyota Fortuner 4X4 AT competing against each other on an off-roading field. Toyota Fortuner is the first SUV to go on the off-roading course. The Toyota SUV was carefully crossing the slush, but it gets stuck. For a few minutes, the driver keeps on trying to rescue the SUV from the slush, but he failed to take out the Fortuner. On the other hand, the second-gen Mahindra Thar also faced some difficulties to cross the same off-roading course. The Mahindra SUV gets stuck, but it comes out after the driver tries a couple of times. The Toyota Fortuner was stuck deep in the slush, and it was not able to come out on its own.

In the video, the Mahindra Thar can be seen pulling the Toyota SUV from the front, but the Fortuner stuck deep in the slush, and the car was not able to come out at all. The actual rescue was not shown by the vlogger in the video. Afterwards, both SUVs can be seen having fun around the slushy farm. However, this video is not enough to judge the capabilities of both SUVs. There are several reasons behind it. The Mahindra Thar you see here gets stock tyres, and they were brands new. That’s why the Mahindra SUV was getting better traction in the slushy terrain. On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner was equipped with stock tyres, but they were not in their best condition. Moreover, the driver driving the Thar seems to be much more experienced compared to the one driving Toyota Fortuner.

Last year, the carmaker also introduced the new facelift model of the SUV with some added features, including an automatic gearbox. This video has been uploaded by a YouTube channel named HEAT 17. The Youtuber conducted several rounds to find which SUV wins the drag race. Talking about the race, in the first round, the traction control of Mahindra Thar was turned off, while the Harrier was in Sport Mode with traction control on. As soon as the race starts, Tata Harrier smoothly takes the lead while the Mahindra SUV struggled. As the traction control of Thar was turned off, it did not get a smooth start, and Harrier took advantage of this by taking the lead. The Tata SUV was in the lead throughout the race and wins the first round.

In the second round, Mahindra Thar driver turned on the traction control. Both SUVs starts the second round almost at the same time. Moreover, in the third race, the setting remains the same, and both SUVs were lined up for the race. Just like the third round, Tata Harrier effortlessly wins this round. There are several reasons behind Tata Harrier winning this race. The first one is its potent 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine. Furthermore, Tata Harrier is also 100kgs lighter than the Mahindra SUV.

The video has been uploaded by Mehul Rajvanshi on a Facebook group called the Mahindra Thar 4X4 group. The second-generation Mahindra Thar goes through a small patch of water first, then wades through a big deep puddle. Even though it wasn’t fitted with a snorkel, the 4x4 crosses the deep puddle fairly easily. This is because the new Thar has a wading capacity of 650 mm, giving the SUV an impressive ability to cross deep stretches of water without any modifications. However, the Thar on the video had a host of aftermarket parts fitted, like a new front bumper, LED headlights, a LED light bar on the roof, and a roof rack.

The second-gen Mahindra Thar is underpinned by a brand new platform and is offered with new powertrain options, with the SUV only sharing the nameplate with its predecessor. With the new Thar’s much better on-road manners and feature-loaded trim levels, it is aimed at being a serious option for a daily driver.

5 Best SUVs for Dads this Father’s Day https://indianautosblog.com/from-the-hyundai-alcazar-to-the-ford-endeavour-p323943 Sun, 20 Jun 2021 05:45:01 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323943 Originating in the USA, every third Sunday of June is marked as Father's Day. Now celebrated around the world, Father’s Day is the time of the year you show your gratitude to your old man and with this year’s Father Day being just around the corner, you may have a hard time finding something that your dad likes at the last minute. Being no strangers to procrastination, and considering how distracting the Covid-19 pandemic has been, it is understandable if one hasn’t thought of the perfect gift yet. To help you out, today we have got this list of 5 best SUVs for Dads this Father’s Day.

Hyundai Alcazar

The newest launch in this list, the Hyundai Alcazar is perfect for dads with a quickly growing family. Hyundai’s latest SUV is based on the Creta, with the two being pretty similar except for the few differences. At the front, the Alcazar gets a new grille, redesigned headlights and bumper while the rear gets a boxier design with wraparound taillights and redesigned bumper and skid plates. The biggest change between the two SUVs are in their length, the Alcazar being quite a bit longer to make space for the new third row of seats. The Alcazar will be available in both 6-seat and 7-seat configurations, with the former getting captain seats in the middle row.

Prices for the Hyundai Alcazar range between Rs 16.30 lakh – Rs 19.99 lakh, ex-showroom. There are two powertrain options available – 1 petrol and 1 diesel. The petrol unit is a new 2-litre N/A petrol that churns out 159 PS and 190 Nm of peak power and torque. The diesel engine is the same 1.5-litre four-pot which puts out max power and torque figures of 115 PS and 250 Nm. Transmission options for the Alcazar are a 6-speed manual or torque converter auto.

Kia Seltos

If you want to gift your Dad an SUV that comes with pretty much every feature available but don’t want a 7-seat SUV, then the Kia Seltos can be a great choice. Launching in the Indian market in 2019 after being showcased at the 2018 Indian AutoExpo, the Seltos is one of the best selling compact SUVs in India. The mid-size SUV quickly became a best seller in the segment with its combination of feature-loaded trims, eye-catching design, and an attractive price range.

The Kia Seltos has two main branches of trim levels – Tech Line and GT Line. It is available with 3 engine choices of two petrol and one diesel. The petrol 1.5-litre 4 cylinder produces 115 PS/144 Nm of peak power and torque figures and can be paired with a manual or IVT transmission while the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol makes 140 PS/242 Nm max power and torque which comes mated with a manual or a 7-speed DCT. The 1.5-litre turbo-diesel churns out power and torque figures 115 PS/250 Nm respectively and you have the option of either a manual or an auto transmission.  Prices for the Kia Seltos range from Rs 9.95 lakh for the base HTE G trim and goes up to Rs 17.65 for the top GTX+ variant. All prices are ex-showroom, respectively.

Renault Kiger

The smallest and most affordable offering in this list of 5 best SUVs for Dads this Father’s Day, the Renault Kiger was launched earlier this year and is the latest in the sub-4-metre bandwagon. The Kiger shares its underpinnings with the Nissan Magnite but looks a tad more handsome due to the distinctly European styling cues. It's also priced quite well, offers many features, a highly spacious cabin with a decent build quality and a good ride. The Renault Kiger is available with two 1.0-litre petrol options - a naturally aspirated and a turbocharged version. While the former is available with an optional AMT, the latter can be bought with a CVT. Prices for the Kiger currently start at INR 5.64 lakh and go all the way to INR 10.08 lakh.

Mahindra Thar

One of the most successful launches in the Indian auto industry in recent years, the Mahindra Thar is a perfect give to your dad if he is the adventurous type. However, you probably will have to wait till the next Father’s Day to actually receive one. Demand for the new Thar so high that the current waiting periods for a new Thar stretches to 12 months, even after Mahindra has increased production by 50%. The second-gen Thar is underpinned by a brand new platform and new powertrain options, with the SUV only sharing the nameplate with its predecessor. With the new Thar’s much better on-road manners and feature-loaded trim levels, it is aimed at being a serious option for a daily driver.

The second-generation Mahindra Thar is priced between Rs 12.11 lakh – Rs 14.16 lakh, ex-showroom. The 4x4 comes with 2 engine options, a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel, and a 2-litre turbo-petrol. The oil-burner makes 130 PS/320 Nm of peak figures while the petrol makes 150 PS/320 Nm of max figures. Transmission options for both the powertrains are a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with a low range box and transfer case.

Ford Endeavour

If your Dad is the adventurous type, but the Thar is not big enough for the family, then the Ford Endeavour is a great choice. The Ford Endeavour was one of the first premium SUVs when it launched way back in 2003. Based on the Ranger pickup, the endeavour was the SUV version of the truck and Ford specially developed the vehicle for the Asian market. The second-generation Endeavour was launched in 2015, featuring new powertrains, better ride quality courtesy new suspension, and first in class features.

Prices for the Ford Endeavour range from Rs 29.99 lakh for the base variant to Rs 35.45 lakh for the flagship Sport variant. The Endeavour is powered by a 2-litre turbo-diesel unit which makes 170 PS/420 Nm of peak power and torque figures. It is mated to a 10-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The Endeavour is slated for an update around 2022 at the earliest, as the current generation is only 5 years old.

This was our list of  5 best SUVs for Dads this Father’s Day, which one are you gifting?

The video has been uploaded by Small Town Rider on YouTube. The vlogger and his friends are taking this second-generation Mahindra Thar off-roading. They first try driving on the footpath with the Thar, the vehicle doing it easily. Upon reaching their destination, The Thar is then tested extensively over various surfaces, from loose sand to rocky and uneven surfaces. The SUV did manage to get stuck in some areas but did not need the help of another vehicle to free itself.

As you’ll see in the video, whenever the Thar got stuck or any of the wheels started spinning freely, brakes were applied on that particular wheel and the wheel that is in the ground will pull the car out of the situation. Also seen can be the traction control kicking in to help the SUV pull itself out from the tricky situations. The driver didn’t engage 4-low during the entirety of the off-roading session, which showcases the Thar’s impressive off-road capabilities without even engaging 4-low or using the mechanically locking centre differential.

Mahindra Thar Diesel-MT Real-World Highway Fuel Efficiency Tested https://indianautosblog.com/mahindra-thar-diesel-mt-mileage-p323725 Sat, 29 May 2021 02:30:20 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323725 Much has already been talked about the new Mahindra Thar's off-road prowess, its modern interior with plenty of creature-comforts and of course, its practicality as an everyday vehicle. In this regard, the new Mahindra Thar is a huge departure from its predecessor and could very well be the only car in your garage if you are a small family. One of the most important aspects about using a car everyday is how fuel efficient it is. And that's exactly what we are going to address here in this article. Here's an owner's review of the Mahindra Thar's fuel efficiency in its diesel-manual spec, tested primarily for highway efficiency.

As you can see in the video, the Mahindra Thar has been topped up to its brim with fuel, the odometer and the fuel efficiency meter has been reset to 0 and we are good to go. It's also worth pointing out that the AC was kept on throughout the test as one would normally do in everyday conditions and there were two passengers on board. For you reference, the diesel-MT Thar has an ARAI-rated mileage of 15.2 kmpl. After filling up the tank, the vloggers went out on the highway to test the Thar's mileage. While at it, they also reported about the Thar's highway manners, refinement and insulation and high-speed stability.

As the highway was relatively empty, the Mahindra Thar was able to cruise at a steady speed without frequent gear changes or heavy throttle or brake inputs. It was mostly driven at a steady pace of around 100 kph in 6th-gear, with the engine doing about 2,000 rpms at that speed. The vloggers noted that the Thar felt very composed and relaxed at regular highway cruising speeds. The engine was not heard in the cabin, there was minimal wind noise, with little noise only coming from the large tyres. It also felt comfortable holding a steady triple digit speed. The vloggers then decided to take things a notch higher.

2020 Mahindra Thar Front 3 Quarters
The 2.2 litre mHawk diesel engine on the Mahindra Thar produces 130 hp and 300 Nm of peak torque.

Pushing the Thar to its limits, it was taken to speeds of 150 kph. In fact, the Thar was consistently driven at speeds well past 120 kph for about 10 km, even as part of the fuel efficiency test. At such high speeds, the vloggers noted that there was decent wind noise in the cabin and the vehicle was also a little bouncy over undulations owing to its soft suspension. The steering, however, felt stable. It is anyway a huge achievement for the Thar to be able to reach speeds of 150 kph on Indian highways. After a run of about 50 km, the vloggers drove back to the same fuel station to fill up the tank again.

At this point, the trip meter in the instrument cluster showed that a distance of 51.6 km was covered and the in-built fuel efficiency meter showed a reading of 16.3 kmpl. It must be noted that the in-car fuel efficiency reading keeps on fluctuating as per real-time driving conditions and style. On filling up the tank to the brim again, it's evident that the Mahindra Thar consumed 3.81 liters of diesel. For a distance of 51.6 km, the Thar consumed 3.81 liters of diesel, which means it retuned an average highway fuel efficiency of 13.6 kmpl. So that's the real world fuel efficiency of the Mahindra Thar diesel-MT, driven in real world conditions as any one would drive on the highway.

Mitsubishi Pajero Rescues New Mahindra Thar from a Lake https://indianautosblog.com/mitsubishi-pajero-vs-new-mahindra-thar-p323687 Thu, 27 May 2021 07:30:25 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323687 Last year, Mahindra & Mahindra launched the new-gen Thar in our market. The all-new Mahindra SUV has got so popular in India that its waiting period in some cities has reached almost a year, depending upon the trim and colour shade of the car. However, there are several people around India who have got deliveries of their new-gen Thar and have been testing its capabilities on different terrains. But, a few spirited drivers go a tad too far. Here’s one such Mahindra Thar owner who took his car far into the lake and got badly stuck.

The exact location where this video was shot is not known to us. In the video, one can clearly see a Mitsubishi Pajero SFX towing the second-gen Mahindra Thar out of the water. The Mitsubishi SUV pulls out the Mahindra Thar using a towing rope, and it effortlessly pulls it out of the water. It looks like that the Mahindra Thar was stuck deep in the river bed. We have no idea so as to how the Mahindra off-roader reached there and for how long it was stuck inside the water. However, we can easily see that as soon as the driver of Thar opens the door, litres of water starts coming out of the cabin. There was so much water inside the vehicle that it keeps on flowing out for many seconds.

So, we assume that this Mahindra Thar was stuck in the water for a good amount of time. One can see that the fog lights of the car were switched on, but we are not sure if the engine is still running. This video shows what happens if someone overestimates the capabilities of an off-roader. Talking about the new Mahindra Thar, it derives power from 2.0-litre petrol or a 2.2-litre diesel engine, depending on the variant you pick. The former develops power and torque outputs of 150bhp of power and 320 Nm, respectively, while the latter shreds out power and torque outputs of 130bhp and 320 Nm. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It gets retailed at a starting price of INR 9.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Mahindra Thar to Get More Affordable - Full Details https://indianautosblog.com/mahindra-working-on-a-new-base-variant-of-thar-p323592 Wed, 19 May 2021 06:31:23 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323592 As per a new report, Mahindra & Mahindra is working on an all-new entry-level trim of Thar that will be positioned below the existing base model and will be powered by a smaller engine. The aforementioned report suggests that the new base trim of Mahindra Thar will be propelled by a 1.5-litre 3-pot mill which will come mated to a manual or an optional automatic transmission. Moreover, it will only be offered in a rear-wheel-drive layout. The new trim is likely to be 100kgs lighter compared to the ongoing model.

Mahindra Thar Front Side Look
The upcoming base trim of the Mahindra Thar will be powered by a smaller 1.5-litre engine that will be available only in the RWD layout.

The powertrain is expected to produce lower torque as the carmaker will be focusing more on fuel efficiency with the new variant. Adding to it, the SUV will get smaller wheels. In terms of dimensions, the new trim of Mahindra Thar will be similar to the ongoing model. We think that the main aim of Mahindra behind launching the new base variant of Thar is to make the off-roader more accessible.

Currently, the Mahindra Thar is on sale with 2.0-litre 4-pot petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options. The former develops 150bhp of maximum power and 320Nm of twisting force, while the latter churns out power and torque outputs of 130bhp and 320Nm. Transmission duties are done by a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT.

The SUV is offered with a 4WD system with a manual-shift transfer case as standard. Furthermore, Mahindra is working on the 5-door model of Thar, which has recently got official approval. The carmaker is expected to soon start the testing of the car with Bolero’s body. One can expect the SUV to be based on a longer wheelbase and will be offered a spacious cabin space. The upcoming 5-door Thar will derive power from a new 180 mStallion Pro turbo petrol unit, which will be much more powerful than the petrol engine offered with the ongoing model. One can also expect the new SUV to get a more potent 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine. It will be slightly expensive than the regular model of the car and will compete with the likes of the upcoming 5-door Maruti Jimny.

Mahindra Thar Drifting In Snow Is The Most Satisfying Thing Ever https://indianautosblog.com/mahindra-thar-drifting-in-snow-p323579 Tue, 18 May 2021 10:15:54 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323579 The Mahindra Thar is primarily known for its supreme off-road ability. What makes it even more enticing is the price, retailing from INR 12.10 lakh and go up to INR 14.15 lakh (ex-showroom). The Mahindra Thar is the most affordable 4x4 SUV available in the country right now and it's a proper one at that. This naturally makes the sport of off-roading a lot more accessible to regular car buyers, which means there's that much more fun to be had and exploit the potential of a true SUV.

Here we have a video where we can see the Thar pulling off multiple donuts on heavy snow. Even just by looking at this Thar on your screen, you can imagine how much fun the owner must have had throwing the SUV around on snow. We bet there's no other vehicle in this price range that can quite pull off such stunts. The Thar is a proper 4x4, and on surfaces like snow where it's easy to lose traction, one can easily overwhelm the grip of the rear tyres and pull off some fantastic donuts such as these.

Engine options on the Thar include a 2.0-litre mStallion TGDI petrol engine that makes 150 bhp and 300Nm of torque (320Nm with the automatic gearbox) and a 2.2 litre mHawk diesel unit that makes 130 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox for both engines. Four-wheel drive along with a low-range transfer case is standard for all the variants.

2020 Mahindra Thar Tracking Front 2
The Mahindra Thar is the most affordable 4x4 SUV available in the country right now and its a proper one at that.
Mahindra is selling the new-gen Thar in a total of 6 color options – Aqua Marine, Rocky Beige, Red Rage, Galaxy Grey, Mystic Copper, and Napoli Black. Currently, the Mahindra offroader boasts of a long waiting period of over ten months on select trims options and colour schemes. Speaking of trims, the Thar is on sale in a total of 2 trim options – LX and LX Option. Mahindra had previously revealed that automatic variants of the Thar are much more popular than the manual ones.

Meanwhile, the convertible soft-top variants and petrol-manual variants have a comparatively shorter waiting period. The new Mahindra Thar is an extremely well-packaged vehicle with all amenities and features you'd expect from a modern-day SUV. If you can live with two doors, the new Thar is also a great everyday car. Although the Thar does not have a direct rival currently, it will soon see competition from the BS6 Force Gurkha and India-bound Maruti Suzuki Jimny.

Watch Old Mahindra Thar Rescue New Model Off Road - VIDEO https://indianautosblog.com/mahindra-thar-old-vs-new-off-road-p323472 Mon, 17 May 2021 04:00:45 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323472 The second-generation Mahindra Thar is probably the most trending vehicle online in India today. Launched in the summer of 2020, the SUV has been one of the most successful vehicle launches in the country in recent memory. Currently one of the most in-demand vehicles, the Thar has a waiting period of 8-9 months. This is after Mahindra has increased production by 50% and discontinued the base models to streamline the production, but it is still not able to meet the unexpectedly high demand.

The second-generation Mahindra Thar is an all-new model that is based on a new platform and comes with multiple powertrain options. It only shares the nameplate with the beloved first-generation model. The new Thar is aimed at being a serious option for a daily driver and only vehicle in the garage with its modern features and balanced on-road manners. The new 4x4 is a very accomplished vehicle, but sometimes even it can get in trouble. Check out this video of this 2020 model getting tugged out by the Old Mahindra Thar.

The video has been uploaded by thar.loverzz on Instagram. Though it is dark and the second-generation Mahindra Thar is not clearly visible at first, we can see that it got pretty badly stuck in the sand. After trying multiple times to get itself out, the 4x4 beached itself further. Needing a tow, a first-generation Thar was called up. The older Thar pulled its younger sibling out in one quick and single try. The new Thar is quite a bit heavier than its predecessor with all of its new features and increased safety equipment, which makes it an easier vehicle to get beached if you do not use its capabilities to the fullest.

Mahindra Thar Old Vs New Off Road

Speaking of the new Mahindra Thar, it is priced between INR 12.11 lakh-14.16 lakh, ex-showroom. The new Thar comes with 2 engine options, a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel, and a 2-litre turbo-petrol. The oil-burner makes 130 PS/320 Nm of peak figures while the petrol makes 150 PS/320 Nm of max figures. Transmission options for both the powertrains are a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with a low range box. You also get a transfer case and a mechanically locking centre differential for serious off-roading. Although the Thar does not have a direct rival currently, it will soon see competition from the BS6 Force Gurkha and India-bound Maruti Suzuki Jimny.

Jeep Drags Mahindra To Court Yet Again Over Thar Design Disputes https://indianautosblog.com/fca-jeep-mahindra-thar-court-p323525 Sun, 16 May 2021 11:30:16 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323525 Jeep's parent company, Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA), has 0nce again dragged Mahindra to court, this time in Australia. This comes after Mahindra released a teaser advertisement of the second-gen Thar in Australia, hinting at its launch in the Australian market. The dispute is once again over the design of the Mahindra Thar, FCA alleging that the Thar infringes the design of their own Jeep Wrangler. FCA has even demanded that Mahindra should not launch the Thar in Australia, and it they really intend to do so, they must provide a 90-day notice.

2020 Mahindra Thar Tracking Front 2
FCA has once gain dragged Mahindra to court in Australia over design infringement issues of the Thar with the Jeep Wrangler.

Both companies have moved the Federal Court of Australia following this. The controversary actually goes back a few months when Mahindra launched its website in Australia to accept registrations from prospective buyers. This was followed by a spy shot of a Thar test mule being tested in Australia, which led to speculations that Mahindra was prepping to launch the Thar in that market. However, Mahindra have confirmed that they currently have no plans of launching the Thar in any new market and have also taken down the teaser from its Australian website.

A Mahindra spokesperson has clarified the situation to TOI saying,

“We have filed our reply in the proceeding commenced by FCA against us. There are no plans to launch the current model of the Thar in Australia. We would provide adequate notice to FCA, as is requested if we were to launch any future model of the Thar in Australia. The Court has listed the case to be heard on May 20, 2021. We have no immediate plans for the all-new Thar to be launched in other markets outside India given the strong demand that we are seeing in India.”

2020 Mahindra Thar Rear 3 Quarters
Mahindra have, however, clarified that they have no intentions of launching the Thar in Australia or any other market as of now.

It must be noted that this is not the first time that Mahindra and FCA have been involved in a legal battle. Earlier in 2020, FCA moved the court in USA demanding a ban on the sale of the Mahindra Roxor in America. The Mahindra Roxor is a bare-bones off-roader based on the first-generation Thar that's sold as a farming and all-terrain vehicle in USA. FCA claimed that even the Roxor had a design resemblance with the iconic Jeep/Willys CJ series. The court, however, ruled in favor of Mahindra and the Indian automaker was allowed to sell the Roxor in USA, albeit with some changes to the design.

That said, Mahindra continues to deal with the problem of long waiting period for the Thar in India, extending up to 11 months in certain cities. Given the Thar's capabilities and the everyday practicality that the second-gen model has brought with it, its no surprise that the lifestyle SUV has become such a phenomenon in the domestic market. The Thar is currently available with two engine options - a 150PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 130PS 2.2-litre diesel engines, both paired with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Prices for the Thar currently range from INR 12.11 lakh to INR 14.16 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Mahindra Thar Imagined As A Police Jeep, Looks Rad https://indianautosblog.com/new-mahindra-thar-police-jeep-p323458 Sun, 09 May 2021 11:30:54 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323458 We all have come across images of several foreign police agencies using exotic supercars and super-SUVs as their patrol vehicles. Meanwhile, Indian police personnel continue to rely on their old Maruti Suzuki Gypsys, Mahindra Scorpios and Toyota Innovas. So there's definitely some scope for an upgrade. While supercar police vehicles are not a thing for India, the coolest upgrade we could think for the Indian police force would be to the all-new Mahindra Thar. The new Thar has a very special character, something we think would compliment Indian cops really well.

Mahindra Thar Police Jeep Front Quarter
Here's a Mahindra Thar that has been imagined as a stunning police Jeep.

So here's a digital rendering of a Mahindra Thar imagined as a police patrol vehicle. One sure would not want to mess with the cops when they turn up in something like this. This Thar has been imagined by Amar Naik and is uploaded on his Instagram handle. At first glance, this Thar looks mostly identical to the factory-spec Thar, but there are certain modifications that have been thrown in. The first thing that you notice about this Thar is its white and black paint scheme with patrol vehicle decals stuck on the doors and the hood. In fact, this white and black color combination looks so good on the Thar, we wish Mahindra offered this from the factory itself.

Mahindra Thar Police Jeep Side Profile 2
The white and black color scheme with police vehicle decals look really cool on the Thar.

This Thar has also been given a full LED lighting treatment. The headlamps, fog lamps and turn indicators are now all-LED units. It obviously also comes fitted with an LED police siren light bar on its roof. The other most important upgrade are the wheels. This Thar can be seen riding on larger - possibly 20-inchers - multi-spoke alloy wheels with larger discs for the brakes as well. The white rim tape on the wheels also look particularly cool. The Indian police obviously need their vehicles to have the go-anywhere ability and who else could do it better than the Thar?

Mahindra Thar Police Jeep Front
Given its go-anywhere ability, the Mahindra Thar will be one of the best suited vehicles for the Indian police.

The new-gen Thar is offered in a total of 6 colour options, 4 engine-gearbox configurations, and two variants (LX and LX Option). Transmission options include either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox for both the engines. Four-wheel drive along with a low-range transfer case is standard for all the variants.

The new Mahindra Thar is an extremely well-packaged vehicle with all amenities and features you'd expect from a modern day SUV. However, to be an ideal patrol vehicle, the Thar must be able to accommodate radio and communication equipment and other such emergency tools.  Thanks to its tough built and practical interior, there's plenty of room and scope to add such devices on the Thar. Prices for the Thar currently range between INR 12.10 lakh to INR 14.15 lakh (ex-showroom). Although the Thar does not have a direct rival currently, it will soon see competition from the BS6 Force Gurkha and India-bound Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
